A question for #psycholinguistics or #neurolinguistics folks: in therapy, EMDR or bilateral stimulation helps to process past events/trauma by, I think, activating both brain hemispheres. Sometimes it's done through auditory means. A beat moves from the left ear to the right ear. #langsky

We need to make sure language is accessible to all students in our class, that it is engaging enough for most, that we offer a variety of ways for Ss to demonstrate learning, and make sure that we regularly audit our materials for bias #LangChat

Universal Design for Learning and Comprehension-Based Teaching
I used to think teaching with comprehensible input (CI) was inherently equitable. I'd argue, "it's the only thing we KNOW students need to acquire language". I still think that's true. And while CI is still the first thing I consider when planning for student language acquisition, I have reflected and learned a lot about what it means to be equitable in a world language classroom.

#LangChat Essential questions, IMO, help students see why what we learn is important. I try to write them in such a way that Ss can leave class and *know* what they think about a particular topic. So now I'm thinking about what will a S's answer to an EQ tell ME about the student.

Good reminder for me as a grad student, AND a good perspective to adapt and teach to students. #langchat #teachers
First and foremost, allow yourself enough time to write and rewrite it. This is not a one-all-nighter assignment.
You might have something done to turn in by the deadline if you do this, but chances are pretty good that you'll have done all that work without really gaining much understanding, or making much progress on your final paper, as a result. And that defeats the purpose of having you write the literature review early on: The whole point of making you write a literature review prior to turning in your final paper is to help you make progress on that final paper. Sometimes—rarely—that progress is the words you wrote in that first submitted literature review. More often, it's the ideas you develop during that drafting process that help the most.

Today in Spanish 4, we played bingo while listening to a podcast. I selected a bunch of short sentences, put them in L1, and as we listened to the pod to “cover” a square, Ss had to copy the L2 that they heard. It was fun, or at the very least Ss seemed to actually listen haha #Langchat

I forgot that when I created this webquest, I had just learned about Dynamic Assessment in WL. The rubric assesses how independently a student completes the task. I don’t think I’d use it for scoring, but it’s a good idea to acknowledge what students can do independently or with help. #LangChat

A3: In fact, in Spanish 4 we do an end of year FVR project. Over the course of two weeks (or so) Ss read an entire book and throughout the process they demonstrate comprehension of their book. Each class they have time to read and show com, at the end of the project they present their books.

A3: I do think we can do input-based projects. With my infographic assignments, I don't mind that they spend some time "out" of the language in class because they have to read (or listen) to their resource a lot to put the information in the graphic #LangChat

A3: This is a lot of peoples' hang up about PBLL, I think. It's a lot of output OR it's a lack of language to do all project based tasks IN the TL. Projects can be great, but are they the BEST use of the limited in-class time we have? #LangChat
