Morning, bitches! Many of the lessons I've learned in tabletop roleplaying games (#TTRPG) are from the years I put in making them full time (from 90 or so, until 2001). SO much has changed since then, though many pros act as if it has not changed at all. It's a completely different business now.

A friend of mine once described the 80's as the coldest decade ever in music, because of the prevalence of synth-pop. I don't necessarily disagree. But "Stop Making Sense" was some of the most joyful, most human expression I've ever seen.

it's world suicide prevention day. My dog saved my life in 2018. I was in a really dark place & the only thing that kept me from making an actual plan was the realization that my dog loved me more than anyone else and he would never understand if Mama never came home. I couldn't do that to him.

blizzard workers had to fight tooth and nail for years, but they finally did it: they secured a union contract not just for one team, but for all unionized units--warcraft, overwatch, diablo, and more
“We really started mobilizing as one Blizzard unit in [the] last couple of months, and I think that really helped put the pressure on,” Paul Cox, senior game designer on World of Warcraft, told Aftermath.
"I feel like the company dragged its feet and did a lot of posturing and wasting time until the very, very last moment."
Prior to spring of this year, the WoW team, which unionized in 2024, had gotten the lion's share of bargaining time. Other units found themselves stuck in the mud. Higher-ups were effectively stalling the whole process—unfortunately nothing new for unionized workers under Microsoft’s umbrella.
"For this whole year of bargaining on the Diablo side—and I imagine on the rest of the units as well—we received so few [bargaining] dates, but we kind of had the understanding that whatever WoW was able to win would at least influence and set the floor for the rest of our units,” Diablo senior environment artist Mahreen Fatima told Aftermath. “We adopted this messaging about how WoW's wins are our wins, so we should be out there mobilizing with them. But truly, I feel like the company dragged its feet and did a lot of posturing and wasting time until the very, very last moment this last month to finally be able to say, 'OK, yes, we are willing to extend this contract to everyone.' We really did not have any indication that we could get this done until last month."

A crescent Moon seen during the day, arcing from upper left to lower right of the frame. At lower centre is the full disk of Jupiter; the small dots to its upper left and lower right and Io and Ganymede, respectively.

Indeed, I commissioned the song for the release of the book (i.e., paid Jonathan to write it and everything). I first heard it when I was doing an event at my old high school. Me and a bunch of teenagers sat around a table and became the first people outside Coulton's crew to hear it. I loved it.

"America must follow through and not abandon these minorities again." That resulted in a spit-take. Every part of this plan relies on treating some other population as a tool, regardless of what that population may have to say about it. This is the most naked form of entitled thinking.
