Worth reading through to its end. Perpetually true, if less overtly than in the case studies of Collier's deft analysis. This stuff is why a former (laid off) director of M&A pushed me out of volunteering my time to a local PTA

Just make sure the catalog descriptions (which is what both AI and human intake have to rely upon) say that each item has marginal annotations or underlining. Almost joking, but I think the chomping of printed codices favors 1) discounted items with 2) no prior physical evidence of use

It's Boomer advice, or at least, it's what Silents and Boomers told people my age in 1992. I used Brin's _Earth_ for a college admissions essay (used--not particularly to agree with it). And yeah, mostly they want to feel that they're _giving advice_, psh

Great essay (I love that @defector.com published it, especially), not least because I started reading it with the vague sense that I've worked mostly in Primary Source mode (because it's where people would hire me), and by the essay's middle I'd remembered that I'm just about ambidextrous

It is pretty obviously your voice, but one would need to have gained a sense of such things by ... reading other longform pieces previously, ideally by a wide variety of writers. I'm not currently in a position to buy anything on an org's behalf, and I think your piece is thoughtful and generous

It seems to me less fiddly, too (though I still mess it up). Proper tatting doesn't ack the needle because one cannot translate all of the former to the latter. But it's a good prop (makes relative orientation more fixed) if the goal is _some tatted stitches_ 🙃

Sharon K. Goetz @skgoetz.bsky.social · 21/06/2026
Good to try, though! Even in needle tatting (simpler), I accidentally reverse the alternating half-hitches way too often. One day I'll retry it, one day, but I've no incentive--thread crochet and my brain get on better

Sharon K. Goetz @skgoetz.bsky.social · 12/06/2026
Sounds good to me. Also--marking it now in order to bend its subsequent encoding to suit your project (plus documenting how you've done so in a consistent way): a time-honored TEI tradition

I think @xml:id is still usual for distinguishing multiple anonymice. If it's only to ack `sin autor`, perhaps something like <author role="unnamed"> (or a value that works better for your project! just tossing ideas)

Sharon K. Goetz @skgoetz.bsky.social · 12/06/2026
Nice viz, also. Do you need to keep the different anonymous entities distinct, or only to acknowledge an entry's lack of a specific name? Are you mostly encoding the book inventory's structure, or trying also (for other uses) to gather up individuals named in it?

Sharon K. Goetz @skgoetz.bsky.social · 11/06/2026
Yes. As I read it, there's another through-line: where each of us may choose to commit our labor and attention isn't neutral, and sometimes it isn't entirely a choice; and (in the last graf) each may dismantle as well as build. (Ripping back for knit/crochet, and for gardening, also weeding/pruning)
