I am grateful to ESPN for automatically translating these game starts to my local timezone but yeeeesh looks like I will only be watching “prime time” games at most I mean can you imagine waking up at 4am to tune into the Titans?! Horrendous.

The next 12 scheduled games for the Jaguars, all with start times at like 1am or 4am with the occasional 8:15m or pm

This comes up in SO many contexts (Church/Jesuit stuff too), that "oh we can't do X because donors will be upset!" a) it's usually a bluff b) what new donors might you *attract* with a change? c) how much is your soul actually worth? seriously: what dollar amount would let you tolerate immorality?

Dealing with a support chat where they first had me talk to an LLM before a human. (Useless at best: it can only parrot what I already can see.) Afterwards they had me rate the support experience and I just put a negative note like "hey, starting with the LLM sucks, but the human was great!"

The Facial Expressions of Tethys by artist Julius von Bismarck. A suspended high-sea buoy that moves in real time. Sensors on a twin buoy out in the Atlantic Ocean send live satellite data to motors inside the museum. This makes the indoor buoy copy the exact, real-time movements of the ocean waves.

Pompeii is a UNESCO world heritage site not because it was remarkable in its prime, but because it survived to our era untouched: one moment, preserved for all time. But future generations won't know what OUR world was like unless we do the same. This is why we MUST bury Toronto with a volcano

Years ago, my ethics professor shared a rule she used for her children that I’ve since applied to many situations and you might also find it useful. “No vetoes without a suggestion.” Example: deciding where to eat, you are free to reject an option… BUT are now responsible for offering a new idea.

<sigh> I'm not as viscerally knee-jerk opposed to these things as many, but I definitely resent the presumptive use of my precious disk space

from the Ars Technica review of macOS 27:

Generative Al is unavoidable if you install macOS 27 Golden Gate. I'm being very literal: <highlight>There used to be a toggle you could hit if you wanted to turn off Apple Intelligence and delete the gigabytes' worth of Al models it would download to your disk, and now there isn't.</highlight> Apple Intelligence defines the Golden Gate release, in everything from its marketing to its features to the chips it runs on to the amount of space it takes on your disk. Ready or not, here it is.
