The camera should pick up a lot more colour than the eye. If it was pointing in the same direction that you saw the red, then it should have picked it up.

I had a few hours of clear skies last night, so I tracked down another obscure object. This is the faint nebula LBN-534, with the embedded blue reflection nebula vdB-158, in Andromeda. I also captured the Cave Nebula (Sh2-155) in Cepheus and the head and neck of the Pelican Nebula in Cygnus.

10th to 13th October: Mars crosses M44, the Beehive Cluster in Cancer, over these dates. The planet will be in the centre of the cluster on the 11th and 12th October. The grouping will be best viewed around 05:00 BST (04:00 UT). A great photo opportunity. #Astronomy

A photograph of the night sky over the Rocky Mountains. There is a long meteor in the upper right corner, angled down towards the center of the frame. Orion's sword is just above the meteor. There are some houselights in the foothills of the mountains.Crop showing meteor detail. There is a distinct flare about 20% from the tip. The tail is slightly green. 8th to 9th October: The minor #Draconids meteor shower peaks this evening. Unusually for a meteor shower, the best rates occur in the early evening as that is when the radiant is highest. The Moon does not interfere this year, so conditions are good for spotting these slow-moving meteors. #Astronomy
