The true story of the english's flag

In that periodthe English ships were prey to pirates and bandits, fling the Genoeses flag these episodes passed.
Forthis authorisation they undertook to pay an annual tribute to the Republic of Genoa.

This was a route suggested by the WSWR for a tramway to the harbour. Drawing based a sketch in a letter in the National Archives when researching the railway’s history. John Lucking in his book on the Tramway records the Council’s reply. The letter explains the reason for the Council’s reply

This. The most expensive resource in a classroom is the teacher. You need to make sure they can function effectively. If they’re overloaded or don’t have enough resources they’re going to break down and stop working.

@merryn02.bsky.social While researching the history of brewing in Bridport I came across the attached. Fed up with fires related to brewing the Council built the Town Brewhouse and leased it out. It continued to the early 18th C. Ironically it later burnt down. Some of the terms escape me

In 1852 Daniel Ford relocated his Waggon office from East Street into Gundry Lane. The large doors were to allow the loaded waggons to enter the building for loading/unloading. It us now a studio venue.

Strange event this morning, woke at 6 to find we only had power to a couple of 13A sockets, all the rest of the house was off. Eventually found out it was a National Grid fault but one that was not all off. Instead, as people got up their switching on reduced the volts even more. Power back 08.45

A1865 photo from the Bridport Museum collection shows the lime kiln, and the amount of cliff erosion since then. The footpath then ran along the cliff edge. There was also a lime kiln at the harbour, where pier terrace is, that produced lime from blue lias for the rebuilding of the harbour in 1823

I have an old iPad Air2 which can no longer show the page pdfs but was happy with the old system. Luckily I have an alternative. The choice of inputting the search terms is rather complex compared to the old system - the phrase can gave gaps but how does that differ from “must include these words”?

In the 18thC the Royal Navy required their makers of sailcloth to stamp their identity on each bolt of cloth. By chance the original stamp of John Bullock from 1781 was found a year or so ago. At Dawes Twine Works we made a replica which can be seen on our open days - the 4th Saturday of each month

Add to that the flax and hemp processing did not help. Flax had to be combed. As it was weighed out before and weighed after precessing the hackling was done in virtually closed sheds. This produced lung disease to add to the others!

In Bridport, before the water was laid on, the people living in the alleys relied on one pump. Often that was only a few metres from the communal cess-pit loos, the effluent from which escaped and was recycled by the pump! It was no wonder that the health of Bridport was worse than many cities
