Just got an email from an author who said that they had received a quasi-phishing email from someone claiming to be me in my role as an acquisitions editor. First I get those emails, using real names and publishing houses. Then someone uses my name. Full circle fraud.

It's quite remarkable. Especially considering they are using the names of actual employees at these publishers. Bananas.

It's been fascinating to see how many spam/scam emails I've received from "editors" at publishing houses, wondering if I have more ideas to pitch to them. I say "editors" in quotes, because even though they all are real names of real people at real publishing houses, the emails are all gmail.

As someone who adores NYC bookseller/icon/institution Bonnie Slotnick, this story is not "old lady yells at cloud," but rather "small business owner gets fed up by pop-up." If I was in NYC, I'd work the store for free for her, while she was in court. evgrieve.com/2026/09/line...

One of the first books suggested to me was "Honey From A Weed: Fasting and Feasting in Tuscany, Catalonia, The Cyclades and Apulia," by Patience Gray. Gray knew that foodways of these regions were on the verge of disappearing, and contextualized them for others to learn their value. (2/4)

Food writing lovers: Can we talk about the under-told/undersold books that should get more love? The ones that we tell people "you should read this." The ones we lend others who are curious about food writing outside of cookbooks? The ones we remind them to bring back? (1/4)

If Mel Woods had their way, everyone would treat the Harry Potter series “as a regretfully significant cultural artifact of a moment in time” in light of J.K. Rowling’s anti-trans activism. With their new collaboration, Tim Hortons has done the opposite. ow.ly/WJUW50Zw1aA
On the left: a two-frame gif image. The first frame depicts a red Tim Horton's coffee cup and chocolate donut with a hand holding a wand coming into the frame from the right side. The second frame shows the food has disappeared with an increased amount of sparkles coming off the tip of the wand. On the right: text that reads “Nobody asked for Harry Potter donuts. The new Tim Hortons collaboration will only fuel J.K. Rowling’s anti-trans crusade”
