When books you admire arrive, buy multiple copies. One for me, three for friends. Share the book love, support your local indie bookstores, publishers, and authors. @khalilakhtar.bsky.social ‘s new book, “How to Eat With Your Hands”

I'm also low-key obsessed with "Wild Plums in Brandy: A Cookery Book of Wild Foods in Canada" by Sylvia Boorman. Out-of-print, but stunning images inside. While looking it up, I found that @omnivorebooks.bsky.social has a copy for sale. Nice! (3/4) omnivorebooks.myshopify.com/products/new...

One of the first books suggested to me was "Honey From A Weed: Fasting and Feasting in Tuscany, Catalonia, The Cyclades and Apulia," by Patience Gray. Gray knew that foodways of these regions were on the verge of disappearing, and contextualized them for others to learn their value. (2/4)
Book cover of "Honey From a Weed," by British author Patience Gray. The painted image is of a restaurant grotto, with frescos painted above, chairs and a table below.

For all of you who love reading about food/cultures/foodways/butchery/The American South, may I suggest Chase Cormier’s new title “Boucherie,” from LSU Press. Approachable, well-researched, giving credit where credit is due, from the sawing to the smoking, from culture to culture to culture.

I love how jewelled black currant jelly looks. Fits perfectly with the vases.

Blackcurrants means blackcurrant jelly means out comes the Grigson.
A copy of Jane Grigson’s “Fruit Book” surrounded by punnets of blackcurrants.

Cherry pitting time. 1/2 flat for sour cherry morabia (a Georgian compote), the other half to be frozen for later.

Blanching nettles this morning and decided to poach the eggs in the same water. Saving the asparagus water for pasta later.

Found a collection of postcards I had started collecting in the 90’s and early 2000’s, from bands to artists, art of all kinds, and from the 30’s to the 90’s. Sending them off to friends because who doesn’t like actual mail (that isn’t a bill)?
A selection of postcards featuring images of Keith Haring’s art, Tori Amos, Depeche Mode, Marlon Brando, and a pastoral scene.

I mean, look at these beauties. The manual’s title notwithstanding, a lot of interesting data in here.
