There are few places which do not change, almost across decades. Places of which I have loads of good memories. sandbarmanchester.co.uk is one of them. A bit empty today, though (but this is just because of time & weather I suppose).

sandbar
Sandbar is one of Manchester's independent fringe culture bars hosting events from live music to life drawing, with beers and food including stone-baked pizza. We now have a second site in Withington ...

Back to Manchester after a while again. Stunning how this city develops, I just hope this is sustainable (not convinced).

I promised some updates ... I'm very happy to join TP1 @fak4unisiegen.bsky.social as a new professor for computational theoretical physics as of last week. I'll still stick around part time @uni-graz.at and @univie.ac.at for the better part of this year. Looking forward to a new exciting chapter!

New things come, old things go, but it's always a bit sad 😔 ... this very likely wad the last regular one of my many, many flights between Vienna and Geneva. Now back from two great weeks at CERN, exciting stuff ahead from next week. Stay tuned 😉

Very happy to visit @lundsuniversitet.bsky.social as part of my sabbatical. Productive discussions and work around event generators, hadronization, group theory ... visits to Niels Bohr Institute included, this time about an interdisciplinary project beyond colliders.

Anthropic claimed 100% of Claude Code is AI-written. A source leak exposed a 3,167-line function, regex sentiment analysis, and 250K wasted API calls daily

A great week of research on colour evolution and quantum computing with @si-wills.bsky.social -- witnessing his heroic efforts on pushing politics to fix the UK funding mess. Highly valued commitment to strengthen fundamental science which always is under thread in times like these. Keep on rocking!

Austria has also put in an amendment to the primary document, and we have also been waiting for additional information and discussions to identify a sensible plan B if FCC is not feasible -- at the provision that we need to have a broad approach and other endeavours should not be deprioritized.

I'm traveling a lot by train these days. And dining cars are really nice especially in the evenings and mornings. Love to work, think, and yes: have dinner there. The most beautiful ones of OeBB have essentially been phased out for modern "Bistros", good on average, but mostly dysfunctional.
