Up early doors. When work feels a lot my husband suggests a long walk. He’s so right, it’s good for wellbeing. But I’ve stated my boundaries again …. For me that walk looks like sticking to a path that ends in a roast. Not an extreme sport version, off road, where I fear for my life. Wish me luck!

I mean I did laugh eventually which in turn probably made me look a little crazy on a packed train. But in that moment, with the cold hard evidence of the auto correct staring back at me and no signal I did feel a little bit sick.

Today I managed to attend a really great training session, in a city, without incident. Only to then have a very unfortunate auto correct situation via WhatsApp, with another headteacher, whilst on the train home.

Can’t sleep. My confidence has strict geographical boundaries. After school tomorrow I’m heading to Birmingham for training on Thursday. Confident and secure at home but the second I leave my town absolute fish out of water.

Jansson
One of my favourite imagined places to inhabit as unhappy
child was Moominvalley. I am still an unofficial ambassador
for it, telling young writers I mentor that they will struggle
to find a better constructed fictional world. I push those
writers into reading Tove Jansson because she makes
words dance, because she makes locations shimmer with
a sense of nature holding within it the not-quite-real that
may manifest at any moment. I push because she is one
of the finest storytellers, because her imagination still
pushes me. I hope that is all in Hookland, as no book ever
taught me more about the power of dark absence in a text
than Moominvalley In November. While the Moomins may
sometimes overshadow Jansson’s stunning lines as illus
trator, the sheer fairytale menace of her early paintings,
they cannot obscure her power to create spaces where the
mind may walk in hope of wonder

Evacuated on the 16th January 2023 so I think that’s 1342 days ago. For the children that’s meant varying degrees of a short school day for around 698 school days. A full and uninterrupted education can’t come soon enough.
