Mimmo reviews Jeffrey Alexander + The Heavy Lidders ‘Liquid Donnon’ – one of contemporary underground music’s most adventurous and rewarding artists

The Klittens have always occupied an intriguing corner of the Dutch indie underground, where sugar-coated melodies collide with sharp edges and DIY conviction. On new single 'Taxi', the Amsterdam five-piece continue to blur the line between dream-pop haze and post-punk unease, offering another compelling glimpse of their long-awaited debut album Have A Heart, due September 25. Following the release of first single 'Universal Experience', 'Taxi' finds the band pushing further into adventurous territory. Built around dreamy melodies that never quite resolve into comfort, the track simmers with quiet tension as it explores the familiar pull of old habits and emotional inertia.

"Taxi" speaks to our sense of restraint, both in its sound and story. A dusky tension-filled track about sliding back into familiar patterns, where choosing to act becomes a choice in itself. The track is driven by dreamy melodies set in a tense atmosphere, the single explores the cycle of inertia: the tendency to get stuck repeating patterns that have long since lost their meaning.

Emma Swift made a big hit with her album of Dylan covers "Blonde On the Tracks", and now she's setting up to release a new album of her own music.  It's called "The Resurrection Game", and it is due out 12th September via Tiny Ghost Records.  The latest single from it is 'Nothing And Forever' which is a string rich and richly nostalgic song about love either becoming stronger or evaporating completely - or alternatively floating around somewhere in the doldrums of the in-between state.

Spanning 21 luminescent tracks, the new double album 'For All The World' is a magnificent journey through the fertile imagination of John Andrew Frederick and his band the black watch. The common theme throughout is the ear for indelible catchy melodies, infused with a sparkling melancholia and shimmering instrumentation. Incredibly, it is the black watch's twenty-fifth album - a testimony to the firm hand on the tiller by Frederick but also the well worn description of his prolific capacity for songwriting - a capacity that is not diluted or diminished over that time or over the tracks of this double album.
