Ava Valianti – alternations
Let’s face it: the indie pop scene has been on the rise lately, with many exceptional artists and bands delivering some of the finest work this genre has seen in years. And it’s no surprise, since many of them have a dozen producers and other music industry experts writing their songs or guiding them through every decision. Thankfully, every once in a while, we stumble upon those who craft their own songs, which, in so many cases, sound even more sincere, soulful, emotional, and unique. Ava Valianti’s music is definitely worth praise, as this outstanding singer-songwriter releases compositions that not only stand out from anything you could hear on the indie pop scene nowadays, but also writes with particular emotion and weight that even seasoned artists do not possess.

Emerging from the industrial Mecca that is Cleveland and recording in their studio housed in a 140-year-old drill bit factory, Arms & Armour creates a doom wash of guttural noise, guitar groans, synth colorations, drone measures, and repetitive drum.

Infra Hands – U Kišama Meteora LP (Discom)
We’ve all been in those situations when we got excited after hearing news about the formation of various supergroups, expecting the outstanding musicianship and quality those musicians had in their previous incarnations. A bitter taste in the mouth was something we experienced on many occasions after hearing all sorts of experimentation, sonic acrobatics, and weird ideas distilled into something somewhat bland and repetitive: predictable songs where it seemed like those musicians left just a glimpse of their true capabilities. But every once in a while, we’re treated to those mind-blowing recordings where some supergroups manage to surprise us with their tremendous ideas, outstanding musicianship, clever arrangements, and other qualities that define the finest albums you could hear nowadays.

1919 have teamed up with Brighton indie label Engineer Records to release “Last Dance of the Departed”: the band’s first studio release since 2021 and their first 7” single since “Cry Wolf”. B-side “Satellite Man” has become a live favourite over recent years. Pre-order HERE A pioneering goth band through singles such as “Cry Wolf”, their Machine LP, and two Peel sessions in the early ‘80s, 1919 returned after a 30-year hiatus to release 2017’s critically-acclaimed Bloodline LP (Westworld) and 2019’s Futurecide (Cleopatra). The band emerged from quarantine in 2021 with their fourth studio album, Citizens of Nowhere (Manic Depression), and the album saw the band labelled “head and shoulders above other denizens of the shadowy genre” in Vive Le Rock.

The House Flies – Derelict Crawl
It’s always a pleasure to see how post-punk evolves over the years, exploring uncharted territory and making the genre even more appealing to the ear. The best part of these experiments is how bands unleash fresh, unique ideas by creating catchy, memorable, engaging compositions that continually shift between calm, soothing, relaxing, ethereal, otherworldly moments and raw, unfiltered, aggressive segments. Between those two opposites, there’s always an outstanding vocal performance, offering emotional depth, complexity, and melody to the song. The House Flies do exactly that. They took all the fundamental elements of post-punk music and shaped them to their taste and liking, without losing the core essence of the genre.

Premiere: Ellis Slater & The Night Shift Release “Skulls & Skeletons” Live Video
Photo courtesy of the band. Ellis Slater returns with Ellis Slater & The Night Shift, a new London based melodic punk band following his previous work with The Misnomer and Strange Planes. After a fairly substantial detour into jobs, mortgages, children and the other less glamorous consequences of adulthood, Slater is back making loud, melodic guitar music again. The band pulls from the melodic end of punk and post punk, with nods to Bob Mould, J Robbins, early Green Day, Beatsteaks and Rocket From The Crypt. Big choruses, loud guitars and songs that tend to sound considerably more cheerful than the subject matter deserves.

Beograd – Mrak LP (Discom)
When the Yugoslav synth scene comes up in conversation, it’s impossible not to mention Beograd, a highly influential group that changed the musical landscape forever. If you even doubt it for a second, these folks might be removed from the sonic equation; just keep in mind that their record “Remek Depo” was the first electronic music release forty years ago, and that information alone will clear the air. The best part about it is how “Remek Depo” sounded fresh, unique, innovative, and exciting, considering it was published in the eighties, an era when electronic and synth music still developed in so many shapes and forms.

FERVENTS Drop New Single “#1”
Photo courtesy of the band. Belgian rock trio Fervents unveil "#1", out 31st August 2026 via Capitane Records. The third single and opening track from their highly anticipated debut album 'Service For The Sick' (9th October 2026) takes aim at the quiet violence of social expectation, consumer culture, and the relentless pressure to be "number one"—regardless of the human cost. The Song: Restrained Fury Built as a slow-burning crescendo, "#1" begins with an almost deceptive sense of restraint before erupting into a surge of raw intensity. Within minutes, the track establishes the album's atmosphere: punk urgency colliding with post-hardcore tension and razor-sharp melodies that cut through layers of irony and alienation.

Having announced the release of their forthcoming EP, the band have already sold half the pressing! Born from post-industrial areas of Scotland, where wounds from the socio-economic decline have barely healed to scars, and we now find abandoned industry being reclaimed by nature’s slow but unrelenting march. It’s no surprise that when asked about their influences Scottish heavy-post-shoegazers Sunstinger pointed to a strong environmental influence, eschewing the normal litany of bands, that all too often feels like a roll call rather than any meaningful thread to understanding a band’s sound.

Let’s face it, noise rock is on the rise in recent years, and it’s here to stay. Once a music genre dedicated to those music enthusiasts who favor screeching, noisy, abrasive guitar work, heavily distorted basslines, and hectic rhyhtmic patterns over more traditional alternative rock now gets its well-deserved resurgence, with many old and new bands exploring this sonic universe in the way it deserves: chaotic, powerful, and loud. This Volume Junk, an Italian noise rock quartet based in L'Aquila, has recently released a debut full-length that does proper justice to the genre.

“I Am Already Hearing Sounds” by Tilman Dominka (Earth Island Books)
Within the global DIY punk rock subculture, visual documentation has always held a status far beyond promotional material or casual record keeping. Photographs captured in small venues, on long highway stretches, or during quiet moments between touring stops serve as the tangible memory bank of a community built entirely on shared passion and mutual trust. Earth Island Books captures this sentiment with the release of I Am Already Hearing Sounds, a stunning coffee-table photo book created by photographer and longtime scene participant Tilman Dominka. Rather than presenting a fast-paced retrospective of loud gigs and chaotic crowds, Dominka offers a deeply personal, contemplative exploration of the quiet spaces and genuine human connections.

Piper Connolly – unapologetic
Remember those catchy, memorable, captivating songs that immediately bring up only the best memories of summertime spent hanging out with friends and doing nothing but having a really good time? Tunes that bring back those beautiful feelings we desperately need in these modern times, when everything is chaotic, rushed, and pushed to the very limits. Piper Connolly’s new single carries those special vibes that immediately comfort your ears and transport you to simpler times. “unapologetic,” another taster of “she’s too much!,” her upcoming extended play slated for release on September 25th via all streaming platforms, is one of those songs that immediately grabs you by the collar and refuses to let go long after the last notes and beats fade away.

The documentary is a vibrant, candid portrait of one of the most influential bands in punk rock history. The 4K restoration will be released in theaters later this year, and marks the first time ever that the film will be available to rent and own on digital.  In 1974, the New York City music scene was shocked into consciousness by the violently new and raw sound of a band of misfits from Queens called the Ramones.
