reactionary centrists have a totally incoherent theory of politics whose primary upshot is that they validate and legitimize the far right
STARMER'S POLITICAL MYOPIA IS TYPICAL of politicians and commentators I would characterize as reactionary centrists-those who, in addition to having moderate policy preferences, share a view of the far right as having unaccountably low agency, and figuring them as simply reacting to the actions (and alleged excesses) of leftists, progressives, and advocates of social justice. 1
Reactionary centrists rarely imagine solutions to political problems that do not involve a policy move to the right, especially on social issues. Won an election? You'll need to give ground to govern.
Lost an election? You'll need to give ground to win next time. That this is obviously unfalsifiable doesn't bother them in the slightest.

A screenshot of a news article excerpt stating that in a second wave of resignations, the FAA is losing multiple high-ranking officials, including the chief air traffic officer, associate administrator for commercial space and his deputy, director of the audit and evaluation office, and several assistant administrators. The Air Traffic Organization is also losing vice presidents and deputy VPs of five major programs. The excerpt cites "The Post reported."

Very saddened to hear about President Biden's prostate cancer diagnosis. Wishing him the best. As a prostate cancer survivor, I want to say: Begin PSA tests in your 40s, and continue well past your 70s. Too many conflicting guidelines out there, for a variety of reasons. It's just a blood test.

I was a history teacher and I know we have to be documenting this moment. When we look back, I don’t want us to say we didn’t know what was happening. Stephen Miller, probably the most joyless man in America, wants to take away one of our most foundational rights, habeas corpus.

I was divorced in 2010. The very first question my attorney asked was whether I was pregnant. I told him I was not. He advised me not to get pregnant because it would push the divorce off until delivery. In 2025, we still live under that rule.

From notes and firsthand sources, we also learned of a remarkable meeting: When the U.S. ambassador went to a Gambian minister’s office to push him to approve Starlink’s license, she noted that U.S. foreign aid there was under review. The Gambians took it as a veiled threat.

In a matter of months, roughly 2,000 employees were pushed out of the FAA under Co-President Musk and DOGE. Workers were left unsure whether silence meant resignation, all in the name of efficiency. That’s like gutting your fire department during wildfire season and calling it innovation. (1/2)

And guess what? With 30% tariffs on China still in place, 20% on UK and elsewhere and 10% everywhere, "Trump's people" are still going to be in a world of hurt. Highest tariffs since 193os. He will have to pull it all, but the damage is already done anyway.
