Friendly reminder that not everything needs to generate profit. Money can be poured into things that only return creations from the community.

One of the most disturbing things about Harry Potter is that animals can be turned into objects, and humans can be turned into animals. How many magical artifacts were some of the most powerful witches and wizards in existence?

S1 will be the typical spy story - drama, intrigue, etc. S2 will paint Hanssen like Walter White. He's playing the game, and he's undoubtedly winning. It could lean into his narcissism and superiority complex. Could be very cool stuff.

The more that I learn about the Robert Hanssen case, the more that I want a tv show with 2 seasons based on it. Season 1 will be focused on Eric O'Neill's perspective and his struggles in unraveling the case. Season 2 will be from Hanssen's perspective, starting from first contact with the Russians.

We're overdue for a reproduction of Annie. The release years are 1982, 1995, 1999, and 2014. The interval between them is 13, 4, 15, so if we assume that there's a pattern, then it should've been 2020. Did COVID kill Annie? Probably.

Franzi Schimmer captured this Grizzly bear in Brooks Falls, Alaska just floating along, tippy-tapping down the river, browsing the salmon. Prior to hibernation, up to 40% of a bear's body mass is fat, which is less dense than water (~0.9 g/cm^2), so the murder-monster is also a floaty-boaty.

I don't think that they're inherently hateful. I think that they support hateful policies because they have been mislead. There are definitely MAGA folk who are inherently hateful, but mostly, I think that they're either just uneducated or apathetic enough to fall for it.

Silbyrn @silbyrn.bsky.social · 19/11/2025
The working class MAGA has been duped by the elites. They are not skilled enough in critical thinking to see past the lies, but that doesn't mean that they deserve to be demonized. The ultra-wealthy deserve that. Fighting amongst ourselves is how they keep it from being a class war.

I'm honestly down to censor victims' names. There have to be a lot of them who have disappeared and don't want that heat. The only acceptable alteration, imo, is victim names.

Yep, fascism can't happen until suddenly it does. I know that y'all have your fair share of nationalists. The US is very much a democratic corporatocracy, and if any country would follow suit in the wake of it, it's Canada.

Everything from preferred pronouns and drug usage to housing and healthcare are included in the "certain unalienable rights, among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness" and it's the government's job to ensure that those rights are not infringed upon by any entity.

It's hard to tell at this point. I mean, 80s US was peak, I think, if you ignore the lead poisoning and leftover racism from pre-Civil Rights Act. Then again, I didn't live it, so I can only imagine. There are probably as many bad things about every decade as there are about this one.

That's how it's been for decades. Most states have one other party, but the last time an independent was on the ballot in all 50 states was Ross Perot in 2000. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Third_p... We really need ranked voting. Get the old farts and bad reps out of office.

The thing though is that there are only two parties that are recognized in all 50 states. It's insane that some states can just choose not to have an independent on the ballot.

Yeah that doesn't surprise me. Cali had the highest prices when I was looking at Gas Buddy's heat map. PNW and Cali have always had a hard time getting oil afaik.

This announcement also makes me think that we are very close to going to war with Venezuela over oil, so corps like Raytheon and Textron may be good investments right now.

Texas has a few gas stations that range between $2.01-2.16 according to Gas Buddy. Gas prices are definitely down from one year ago - not by much, but they are. About 5-10 cents, depending on location. This extremely confident announcement makes me think that I should invest into oil.

When modern Christians say “it’s not the government’s job to help the poor,” they’re not echoing Jesus, Paul, the prophets, or the early church. They’re echoing figures like Ayn Rand, who despised Christianity’s communal ethic of compassion and called altruism a “moral evil.”

Notice how it’s somehow the government’s job to legislate a few Bible verses on human sexuality over our entire country, but it’s suddenly “not the government’s job” when it comes to the +2,500 Bible verses calling for a generous use of wealth that prioritizes the poor.

Notice how quickly “we want our nation to uphold Christian values” turns into “it’s not the government’s job to feed the hungry or help the poor!” which are actually things Christ taught his followers to value.

I still love the language, the culture, the media, and the food, but there are massive downsides to the societal aspect, most of which I think stem from the intense collectivism. Good and bad, like every country. We should definitely be critical of what we love so that it can be improved.

Like a lot of people, anime got me interested in Japan. 君の名は had a bit where someone switches between dialects to fit in. I didn't get the joke until I looked it up & I wanted to understand more so I began learning. It feels like the more I learn about the culture & language, the more critical I am.

The really interesting thing about Yakuza is that they're really not all that bad. I hear so many stories about how chill they are when there's nothing that they want from you. But in the US, people want your phone, wallet, shoes, jacket, shirt, anything you got that has any intrinsic value at all
