When I tell folks I work on a virtual convention, they get an image of like maybe 16 hours, spread out over two days. Perhaps two dozen speakers. All about writing. They don't get FoF. They don't understand 60 continuous hours of programming, 243 program items, 168 speakers, 8 program tracks.

Just finished up watching the The Charged Field session with Sid for @flightsoffoundry.bsky.social He presented a great framework for finding, developing, and evaluating ideas based off existing obsessions, observations, and unanswerable questions. Bonus: I loved the sciencey bits cuz I'm a nerd

For a period of a couple of years during the 2010s I was employed regularly by cattle to shoot the covers for the albums they had recorded. It was always wonderfully inspiring to witness the love, hard work and passion they had put into their music and I think that comes through in the photos.
Some cattle with rich parents who have formed a hugely sanitised-sounding folk pop band and paid a reputable PR and branding agency too much money to get their image just right. Some tense and jaded cattle who have just recorded their difficult third album, which the record company has informed them has no obvious hit single, and are consequently about to break up.A physically impressive but wretchedly lonely bull who has stolen another bull's child, made a record with it, and is imploring me not to call the police and instead help them absolutely nail the cover shot that will take them all the way to the top.A young cow whose music had been written off as "cold and aloof" so wanted to show her fans her sensitive side by getting me to photograph her having a really enjoyable scratch against this tree.

I'm so happy Olivia Dean is playing sold out stadiums all over the world. She deserves all of it! Three consistently incredible albums each better than the last, and such humble yet confident stage presence.

"the noir detective—private or police—is often configured as a Lear-like figure: raging at the new ways, the chaotic universe he inhabits. His adherence to instinct, to hunches, to his gut is a kind of stubborn faith, and he is, himself, a theological remainder." lareviewofbooks.org/article/merc...
