iiinova — where your digital self keeps evolving

Not much, but it's just because what I'm working on is mostly comissions I can't show yet. Last thing that's public is the cover for @giantrobotfm.bsky.social's Gunbuster zine. And in a bit I'll have a whole RPG I illustrated! Looking forward to getting back to personal doodles some day.

heh heh hell yeah brother i'm in that edo state of mind

In modern days, the Kanji character for Tobacco is the combination of SMOKE and WEED.

In the good old Edo period, the Kanji for Tobacco was only 1 simple Kanji of WEED + GOOD.

Every time "Nighthawk Returns" does an animal-metaphor thing, it hits hard.

Me: Oh wow, Gigi Andalucia looks like the most elegant, lovely lady ever. Tomino: Yeah, she's a real freak ass slut, like they all are Me: Wh-what? What are you talking about? Who's "they"? Tomino: All the other sluts can smell her slut pheromones at range. Tomino: She even knows about THAT hole

Freckles Asuka, too powerful a concept at the time.

One of the reasons Legion makes such an impression in Gamera is how creatively the suit uses its performers.

So you're saying a romanization no official work uses is preferable to an English title every official release uses? That's at best not an inherently defensible position, and at worst really silly!

160

GITS is the perfect example, though. - The Ghost in the Shell is Shirow's original title. - Koukaku Kidou Tai is a romanization of "こうかくきどうたい". But that's not the same thing as 攻殻機動隊. It loses the innate kanji meaning. - The English and JP title almost always appear together!

DeeDee Magno Hall should have won fifteen Emmys for her work as Pearl.

The episode of Steven Universe where Rose and Greg have sex for the first time is insane.

The hard cut from TFA Han to TROS Han is sublime.

I'm glad the lasting addition to Superman lore James Gunn made was "Clark Kent loves pop punk music"

Star Wars was created by George Lucas and Ralph McQuarrie and Ben Burtt and John Williams and John Dykstra and Marcia Lucas and John Barry and Colin Cantwell and Roger Christian and Ken Ralston and Phil Tippet and Richard Edlund and Joe Johnston and Paul Hirsch and Richard Chew and that's minimum.

Andor is great not because Tony Gilroy is a singular visionary; it's great because Tony Gilroy assembled tremendous cross-discipline talent and let every part of the craft elevate the others. I'm telling you you're all wrong about what makes good Star Wars.

091

Star Wars has never needed auteurs and never will. Other things need a strong creative vision to elevate them; Star Wars already has Star Wars. What Star Wars needs is solid storytellers who can wrangle enormous productions and manage studio expectations.

I really don't think repartee is gonna improve our dynamic here, my guy

If the first thing Filoni does is say "lets get these guys who can get a goddamn movie made by Disney after all the other movies kept not getting made by Disney", its a good sign of his canniness with the reigns.

Bryce has proven herself to be the Star Wars director best capable of pulling real, deep emotions and empathy out of what can be overwhelming pulp silliness; without losing the pulp silliness either. Can you imagine what she could do with Rey?

3. They've already proven their handling of Star Wars by, and I can't emphasize this enough, making some of the best Star Wars ever made.

John Watts and Simon Kinberg might make some rough stuff outside of Star Wars, but: 1. Richard Marquand, Irvin Kersher, and let's face it George Lucas also didn't have particularly stellar non-Star Wars output. Star Wars pushes people to greatness. 2. They get successful IP movies made. and...

When you tell me John Watts and Simon Kinberg are making a new Star Wars feat. Rey Skywalker, I think you'll see by my exquisite taste that this has my full endorsement.
