I like what the article says, but I think HackerNoon itself could do better on accessibility when JavaScript isn’t available…

With JS disabled, the article is presented as incomprehensible vertical lines of text (punctuated by a few readable blocks)

The new @arstechnica.com CAPTCHAs are a little frustrating, especially when they seem to pop up on every second article.

A prompt to confirm I’m human by choosing which images show chairs out of a set of nine. I’ve failed the test because I marked four but there’s a fifth that I can barely recognize as a chair even now. The images are quite unclear (to make it harder for machines, I assume) so there’s a lot of squinting and thinking involved.

Behold, the website for #FinalFantasyResonance: incapable of displaying static text and images without JavaScript, and offering exactly one link (to the Square Enix site). www.square-enix.com/finalfantasy... Now that’s what I call an experience.

Searching the HTML turns up exactly one <a> linking to the Square Enix website

Thanks for the suggestion. I picked a random non-index entry, but it unfortunately doesn’t provide any further details (except a ‘Temporary processing error’ under the Sitemaps section of Discovery… while the Sitemaps page says it’s fine). I tried the live test and everything was fine.

The URL Inspection page declares ‘URL is not on Google’ but, apart from a ‘Temporary processing error’ under ‘Sitemaps’, says eveyrthing else is fine

#Google refuses to index nearly a third of shivjm.blog. Some are index pages (tags, series, etc.); some are entries. I have no idea what I’m doing wrong. The docs says ‘no need to resubmit this URL for crawling’, but I’ve been seeing this behaviour for nearly two years that I can remember. #SEO

Eight notifications in 20 days for various attempts to trigger indexing again, with no reason given in the final report for why 507 pages aren’t indexed

Google tells me that 877 pages are indexed, 2 are not found, 10 have redirects… and 521 are ‘Crawled - currently not indexed’

I feel like these are just getting better and better. The last few seriously cracked me up. On an unrelated note, I noticed the images are large and load slowly. Any chance the PNGs could be optimized? At least in Photoshop, choosing 8-bit squashes it from 2.4 MB to 365.5 KB.

Export As in Photoshop shows the image doesn’t change at all in 8-bit mode but the size falls drastically

Google is right. I should get rid of these unused apps. How silly of me to install them in the first place.

My Android phone is recommending I free up space by deleting unused apps like Google Connectivity Services, Google Lens, Google Meet, Google Pay, Google Play Music, and Google Support Services.

I for one think it’s great that all higher-capacity #GoogleOne (read: #Google #Drive) plans are now AI this and AI that. It’s the reminder I needed to resume moving things to my own servers so I can minimize my Googleness.

The plans start at the 2 TB Google AI Plus and go on to Pro at 5 TB, Pro at 10 TB, and Ultra at 20 TB

Thanks to [redacted] for showing me what passes for security in the #AxisBank mobile app. To be able to use the app at all, they had to scroll down (without any indicators) and find the option saying they know what AirDroid does and ‘it may be dangerous’… for 90 days.

The Axis Bank app blocked by an overlay: ‘Harmful App/s Detected’. It requests the user to uninstall AirDroid and has a single radio button labeled ‘Someone asked me to install these Apps. I'm not aware what these Apps can do.’.

My thanks to #GitLab for protecting me from the dangers of not knowing that my trial for an #AI #slop ‘feature’ I never asked for, turned on, or used has ended. That was much more important than letting me see the page I needed to access.

@flstudio.bsky.social It’s concerning that your support team wants to see ID to swap my primary and alternate #FLStudio addresses (both verified). I understand the caution since I initially mistyped the former, but why would you ask for government ID and what would you even verify it against?

The response from support team asking for my ID to swap the primary and email addresses. It mentions my recent address change (a consequence of my own error). It also explicitly mentions GDPR right in the middle of talking about IDs.

Apple devices may carry a premium, but you’re buying the experience… of keeping someone company at the shop as they upgrade, since the unskippable update on the NEW phone takes an hour and transferring the data over Bluetooth takes two more. Here’s to the crazy ones. Better you than me.
