SUPER nasty google account scam mail i just got! It's all from official google senders etc, but attackers can apparently just put a whole message and url in the title field of an app password, using *official google* emails to send you to scam sites! "login here" was a hard tell though, but still!
the scam email, where everything between "this password for your" and ", someone might be using your account" is injected by an attackera normal app password notification email for reference

If you’re putting a ceiling on tens of thousands of people - defendants and victims - by forcing their serious cases into summary trials - then you’re still *restricting* jury trial. You’re still skinning the cat.

So - let me get this straight - hardly anyone appeals, but when they do, loads of them are successful appeals? So you’re restricting it because there might well be more? I would jolly well imagine there would be more. The difference is: I’m not sure that’s a bad thing guys.

But we have to be able to express our opinion, which is one I suspect the general public share: Lay people - legally unqualified people - should not have the power to imprison for two years.

You are being asked to approve volunteer Magistrates hearing more serious criminal trials and being able to hand citizens two year prison sentences. And, for good measure, to get rid of the automatic right of appeal (rehearing) against their decisions. That’s on you. Today.

Speaking of voting, if you're a member and you'd like to keep the National Trust's Council free from interference from Britain (and the US's) richest financiers, don't forget to vote before the end of the month. Quick-vote takes moments and avoids the Restore Trust slate of candidates.

As this piece points out, there is a high chance that universities unilaterally withdrawing offers because they think a visa might get rejected is unlawful. The Home Office is effectively forcing universities to discriminate based on race and nationality. wonkhe.com/blogs/who-pa...

Who pays the price when universities cancel offers to protect refusal rates?
As visa refusal rates climb, universities are revoking offers and cancelling CAS en masse to stay under the new BCA threshold. Jim Dickinson asks whether that’s lawful – and who ends up paying.

It's also extremely Kafkaesque that one of the three main things that the Home Office tracks in determining whether a university can sponsor students is visa refusals, which are decisions made by the Home Office, not the university.

Anecdotally what seems to be happening is that the Home Office is refusing all student visa applications from certain countries. The Treasury should have told them to knock if off years ago but at this point the FCO needs to tell them to stop trying to cause an international incident.

Reminder that "biological sex" is not a thing that exists. It is a legal fiction in every place that refers to it. In the UK, in the equality act, it means "the sex that was written on your original birth certificate." Incidentally, it doesn't matter if that's due to a clerical error.

A reminder: this is worse than judge-only trials because it means for many offences you will be tried not by a Circuit Judge but 2 or 3 non-lawyer volunteers given legal advice by someone else who may have no experience of practising criminal law in the CPS or a defence firm.
And courts will have the final say over where cases should be heard, preventing criminals accused of relatively minor crimes trying to game the system by electing a jury trial in an attempt to avoid prison.
