I managed to hold on to the EU burgundy for my passport until I had to renew it and got my new one yesterday. It has a 10 year validity. I hold out hope the next one will be burgundy again.

In the UK, you can do these things at 16, but the government wants to ban you from instagram between midnight and 6am. If you wanted to do something actually useful, you could ban addictive features for EVERYONE and, I don't know, investigate meta for encouraging harmful content.

Test 2 And the priestess spoke again and said: Speak to us of Reason and Passion. And he answered, saying: Your soul is oftentimes a battlefield, upon which your reason and your judgment wage war against your passion and your appetite.

Worrying reporting from @mathieupollet.bsky.social who found that The European Commission dropped their “open source strategy” from the Tech Sovereignty Package ec.europa.eu/transparency... Reminder of what the EC itself said: open source = close to €100b in economic value for every €1bn invested.

Screenshot of a European Commission webpage published in 2021 titled “Commission publishes study on the impact of Open Source on the European economy.” The page highlights findings that open source software investment in the EU generated major economic benefits and could further boost GDP and startup creation.

The Barbican (London) is a stunning example of brutalist architecture

Street level picture showing the entrance for he Barbican Centre

Picture showing the inner open area of the Barbican Estate. Lots of people sitting on cafe tables, standing and sitting along the artificial pond. A large rectangular building in the brutalist style is in the background. Above it is a blue sky streaked with a contrail.

Another view of the Barbican Estate with several building in the background. In the centre is a large paved open courtyard area. There are trees in the background and blue sky above.

I find politicians not talking about the impact on jobs and the adequacy of university degrees baffling. On the last point, open weights models are doing very well

It looks like Claude Mythos security capabilities weren’t hype, which isn’t surprising given the trajectory. 3 years ago it may have been a valid position to dismiss LLMs as stochastic parrots, today it’s not. blog.mozilla.org/en/privacy-s...

Screenshot from Mozilla blog referenced in the post. The text reads:

Elite security researchers find bugs that fuzzers can't largely by reasoning through the source code. This is effective, but time-consuming and bottlenecked on scarce human expertise. Computers were completely incapable of doing this a fow months ago, and now they excel at it. We have many years of experience picking apart the work of the world's best security researchers, and Mythos Preview is every bit as capable. So far we've found no category or complexity of vulnerability that humans can find that this model can't.

This can feel terrifying in the immediate term, but it's ultimately great news for defenders. A gap between machine-discoverable and human-discoverable bugs favors the attacker, who can concentrate many months of costly human effort to find a single bug.

Closing this gap erodes the attacker's long-term advantage by making all discoveries cheap.
