I've been quiet lately, but its because I'm working on some fun stuff! My fall will include an MG novel dev edit, a scifi novel copy edit, and continued work on formatting a biography

Potential clients in my inbox have me feeling excited! I always hope my schedule lines up with writers' plans, but I'm definitely crossing my fingers for these ones 🤞

Looks like I'll be going old school on my latest project. Client is doing revisions by hand before sending the manuscript back to me!

This popping up on my feed as the construction on building behind my house starts is fortuitous. Thanks!

I love how different comic scripts can be! Some writers give super detailed panel descriptions, others leave things mostly to artists to figure out, so it's always interesting to find out what kind of writer I'm working with

AI Best Practices for Authors

New resource! This grammar glossary covers all those grammar terms you learned back in grade school, and perhaps a few more. You don't need to know all the lingo to be a good writer, but sharing a vocabulary with editors can make collaborating more efficient. shelfpotential.com/2026/07/28/g...

Excited to be working with a new middle-grade graphic novel client! I'll be doing a script evaluation. First comic-related editorial work this year!

Publishers, writers, reviewers, bilbiophiles: PLEASE mention the *illustrator/cover designers* in your posts promoting books. By properly crediting human talent, you are supporting the industry. Everyone wins! #PicturesMeanBusiness graphic by @sarahmcintyre.bsky.social #KidLit #BookSky #BookPromo
Graphic with a blue winged horse-shaped logo reading “#Pictures Mean Business” beside the text, “Why do so many book people keep forgetting to credit illustrators?” Small text at the bottom credits the illustration to Sarah McIntyre and includes the Pictures Mean Business website.

I've been enjoying On-Together Virtual Co-Working (thanks to @katenascim.bsky.social for the recommendation). It's a really low-pressure way to co-work, which works well when I've got blog posts to write and admin to do ✒️🎮

"Writing is hard because the writer is learning. If AI eliminates the challenge, it also eliminates the learning." This succinctly addresses how I feel about AI shortcuts.

The End of Reading Is Here
Optimists once believed that universal literacy was inevitable. Now it seems that the age of reading might be a short anomaly in human history.

ive seen some folks lately talkin on NEGATIVE REVIEWS and how to deal with them as authors or artists. personally i have not cared about reviews for several decades. negative reviews do not bother me in the slightest and buds often ask me HOW. ill explain a bit here and why this applies to everyone

My pinky finger gets tired when I #AmEditing, so I've added some autocorrects to Word to save some stretching and make style sheets a bit faster: ch. ➡️ Ch. 9ch ➡️ (Ch. 9n. ➡️ (n.) 9ad ➡️ (adj.) 9av ➡️ (adv.) 9v. ➡️ (v.) 9in ➡️ (int.)

Finally, with all this in mind, I asked the author how they used AI, and I ultimately decided it was above my threshold of comfort. I want to have some leeway for folks new to writing who aren't as aware of the concerns about AI (plagiarism, the environment, etc.), but generated text is not for me

Colleagues had varying levels of comfort with AI, but there was consensus that use would need to be disclosed and explained, and the client would need to demonstrate respect for the editor's expertise (we're not robots)

Something I wish more debut authors knew: the first book you write doesn't have to be the one that makes your career. 👉 Stephen King wrote 4 novels before Carrie was picked up by Doubleday and became his debut.
