Labour’s reported disability benefit cuts are not just about budgeting but a belief: paid work is a virtue (and people who don’t perform it deserve a worse life than everyone else). My col. in tomorrow’s paper. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

There is a shameful British tradition of demonising disabled people. Why is Labour reigniting it? | Frances Ryan
Ministers run away from a wealth tax and then concoct a punitive benefits system. They have made that choice and it’s immoral, says Guardian columnist Frances Ryan

Stop placing complex chronic illness patients on psych holds. If you don’t know how to treat someone, say so. Don’t tell them it’s all in their head. Placing patients in the psych ward breaks their trust, sets back their baseline and sends a clear message that they’re not safe in your care.

Dismissed and Disbelieved, Some Long COVID Patients Are Pushed Into Psychiatric Wards
The chronic illnesses that make doctors doubt their patients often start after what “should” be a short-lived sickness—like COVID-19.

Being chronically ill at Christmas can be lonely. Many of us deal with feelings of guilt and are gaslit for not being able to participate in family traditions. My article on how to find joy in the small things, how others can make the holidays accessible and a reminder that no one is alone:

When I had a violent stalker who would graphically describe how he would have me gang raped, puncture my organs and and break all my bones, I was told the police "couldn't do anything". Consider this a reminder that they absolutely ✨can✨ do something. They just don't care about YOU.
A screenshot of a social media post that states a Florida woman was arrested this week after allegedly threatening a health insurance provider. Lakeland Police said the woman became increasingly upset during the call which she ended with delay denied depose you people are next.

Another horrifying example of neglect leading to assisted dying: Normand Meunier (a quadriplegic) developed bedsores after being left FOUR days on ER gurney. He wasn’t turned & his pleas for a specialized mattress were ignored. He decided he didn’t want to “be a burden” www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

This is another example of disabled people being the proverbial canaries in the coal mine. We’ve been screaming for years about the dangers of supply chain issues and medication shortages. 🧵 on tariffs, income inequality and disability rights
Screenshot from Courtney Waller which reads. Fun fact about tariffs no one is even considering while we're all freaking out about the every day items
Did you know that the US imports approximately 47% of medicine from foreign countries?
Including:
95% of ibuprofen
91% of hydrocortisone
70% acetaminophen
40% of penicillin
Data is not specific or reliable for the amount of cancer drugs and cardiovascular medications. But we do import them too. (There was a shortage here in recent years and the data swung high, however that was meant to be on a temporary basis)
$1.5 billion worth of ingredients for medications we manufacture here are imported.
Importation of meds has risen 600% in the past 8 years
The bulk of this comes from China and India
This doesn't even touch medical devices which we also are one of the world's largest importers

one of the worst feelings as an artist is when you have lots of ideas for what you want to draw but no time, then when you have the time you have no motivation, then when you have the motivation you have no ideas

The big disadvantage of having art not solely as a hobby is that you never can stop thinking about work. It's always present in thoughts, subconsciously or not. Such an exhausting way of making a living but also a very privileged one.

With a fully remote team of just 20 employees, Bluesky has surpassed 20 million users in its first year since opening to the public and is stealing thunder from rivals hundreds of times its size. At a time when conventional wisdom among bosses is that workers must be in-person to be productive.
