As a firm enjoyer of many amazing book-to-film adaptations, this is an uplifting read

One thing I find endlessly funny about the rise of AI is that it has revealed that there is a large number of people who believe that the reason they wrote essays at school or university is their teachers were desperately waiting for them to provide a definite answer to “Lear: what’s up with him?”

Also, you need to see Digger in a cinema to get the full effect of the end credits. It is an experience! (I shall probably see it again). #filmsky #scriptsky #Digger

Digger just came out of the woods as one of my favourite films of the year (and it's been a mighty strong year for cinema) If you liked Eddington or Don't Look Up or even self-dissecting meta films like Synecdoche, New York, you need to see this one. It's absolutely brilliant. #filmsky #scriptsky

All recommendations gratefully received on what to watch in this vein. I very much want to track down Double Indemnity (1944) next as I love Billy Wilder stuff (just haven't gotten hold of it). But yes, The Third Man was good! #filmsky #scriptsky

Finally watched The Third Man (1949). Great performances all around in this little noir set in the aftermath of WWII. There is a chase scene that takes place in this labyrinthine sewer system that looks absolutely splendid in black-and-white. Worth the price of admission alone. #filmsky #scriptsky

Oh man, gonna be living in the cinema in October. Primetime, Whalefall, Digger, Verity, Street Fighter, Forgotten Island, The Social Reckoning, Other Mommy, Klara and the Sun, Wildwood, The Fox (by Causeway Films - one of my favourite Aussie studios), and a special screening of The Devils. #filmsky

Just saw Coyote Versus ACME in the cinema and, just, wow. What an absolute crime against art it would have been for it to have never seen the light of day. It is superb. Gave me the same awe I had watching Who Framed Roger Rabbit. See it on a big cinema screen - it rocks. #filmsky #scriptsky

Resident Evil is very fun and so inventive. I haven't loved a gory, mutation horror-comedy this much since Slither. See this on the biggest screen you can! Also: the soundtrack is a pulsating, dread-filled banger that I'll definitely have on repeat. I rate it 5/5 Tentacles! #filmsky #scriptsky

They're really robust. Strong, fast birds that have all these weird grunting, honking vocalisations. They don't sound avian at all.

"Enron: the Smartest Guys in the Room" is one of the best documentaries out there. Absolutely jaw-dropping levels of criminality. And yet, I can't help wondering that, if it happened today, whether anyone would ever go to jail.

It's so good when they put the effort in and really make use of three-dimensional space and props. I remember seeing the bus fight and the bamboo-scaffolding fight in Shang-Chi and being blown away.

If two ghostwriters have a spat and there is no one there to see it, does Twitter make a sound?

Only stands to reason it would be two ghostwriters going head to head for 500k. Every hour they take a letter of the alphabet away from them. The one who finished first wins.

If you get a chance to see the Australian 60 Minutes episode about this, I highly recommend it. So many lucky coincidences that happened (including a trauma expert who happened to be at the beach that day) to get this incredible outcome.

The movie "Into the Blue" is an excellent example of this realised for the screen: "Would you give up treasure for the love of your life?" It is asked early in the film (as a hypothetical character discussion) before being tested in the finale, when the MC's answer is revealed.

Oh man, Tim Curry. One of the best presences in the world of film. Any project would always be elevated by him (Cardinal Richelieu in Three Musketeers is still my most-quoted fave) I love how he would randomly appear in things. Tim Curry on a Russian sub in Hunt for Red October? No worries! Vale x

If Dolly was our constant reminder that it was Good to be Good, Tim Curry was our reminder that it was Good to be Weird. Embrace your strangeness, sing with Muppets, wear your lingerie with a leather jacket, and fuck with uptight people who hate anything that makes them remotely uncomfortable.

Dolly Parton rose from poverty to stardom. She gave $500 to every student in her hometown who finished high school; she built hospitals & bald eagle preserves; her Imagination Library has gifted 300 million books to children. Roger Ebert met her and came away thinking she was a literal angel. RIP.
“In Dallas for the premier of '9 to 5', I had an uncanny experience, and on the plane home to Chicago I confessed it to Siskel: I had been granted a private half hour with Dolly Parton, and as we spoke I was filled with a strange ethereal grace. This was not spiritual, nor was it sexual. It was healing and comforting. Gene listened and said, "Roger, I felt the exact same thing during my interview with her." We looked at each other. What did this mean? Neither one of us ever felt that feeling again. From time to time we would refer to it in wonder.”

The 5 Simpsons lines I utter the most, off the top of my head 1. You said bread. Go to bread. 2. Yes, Lisa. A wonderful, magical animal. 3. Diagnosis: bad babysitting. 4. Eh. A little of column A. A little of column B. 5. I am so smart. S M R T.

Gosh, I didn't realise we shared a house lol. I had exactly the same in Canberra. Would literally get ice on the inside of the windows in winter. 40+ degrees in summer. Windows you could only open 15cm. The stove didn't work and I couldn't get them to fix the kitchen light (electrical issue) at all.

The Secret Agent Difficult to describe this film, as it wouldn't adequately convey the fine details and richness of depiction of 1970s Brazil that has been achieved here. It's a beautiful and heartbreaking film and Wagner Moura absolutely deserved to be in the Oscar race for his role. #filmsky
