Cat dad north of Hadrian’s Wall. Hillwalker. Probably “woke”. Sometime korfballer. Music, food and travel. And history and architecture. #NUFC North-eastern England. Late stage dementia carer. Like Reform? Passionate about flags? You’re going to hate me.

"I'm here because I sniff out liars for a living" is a bold play for a host of the Today programme #CelebrityTraitors

They’ll probably hang onto her for a bit. Not as bad as expected (the bar was low) and there’s really no one else. Literally.

Sure it is. He’s got some big funders willing Brexit to happen who can’t wait to give him some more money.

I say this as a Newcastle fan but never ever again can a state ever be allowed to have involvement in owning a football club.

Yes. Although although Chelsea did at least cooperate with the PL. But I bet the sanctions imposed hamper City for maybe a season or two but probably no more.

Remember all the outrage in the early 00s about the Taliban in Afghanistan, who they were and what they purported to stand for? The US Christian right is no different.

Still waiting to hear the outrage from the Free Speech Union

Despite our Catholicism there’s definitely a provocateur spirit in our family. Apocryphal, but my granddad apparently sang “The Sash” at someone’s wedding. Apparently it didn’t go down too great.

My mum likes to remind me that during the 80s we wound up in Ballycastle during Lammas fair week and there was a small Orange parade. Despite our family being *very strongly* of a Catholic persuasion, apparently toddler me absolutely loved a flute and lambeg drum band. That’s bridging the divide.

Obviously the odd anomaly (Leicester winning the league, Arsenal getting smashed at Brighton) is nice because it keeps “legacy fans” engaged. But you wouldn’t want that all the time. Imagine a world where the “best players” lost out to a better team for silverware. Perish the thought.

Money is the bottom line. TV deals aren’t lucrative on the basis of a competitive league where anything can happen. The “customer” wants a league where a few teams can hoard world class players and be guaranteed their place in a footballing hegemony.

If City survive this with only a fairly moderate points deduction and a fine it’ll be a slap in the face to supporters of every other club. But I can see that happening. Too many vested interests. The PL brand is not about competitive sport. It’s all show. Just like wrestling.

As far as I know - you’ll know better than me - there have long been pockets of Catholicism in N’land (possibly explaining support for the 1715 rising). I think Rothbury has been an example?

I once went to mass in that Church! We had a school residential at WalkerWalls (just outside of Wooler) and they took us to that church. I also remember them driving us in a minibus up into the Harthope Valley. Suppose I would have been 9 or 10.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/article... I’ll be astounded if City get anywhere near the harshest punishment. This isn’t just about Manchester or a football club cooking the books, it’s about state investment in UKPLC. Feels as if there’ll be huge pressure on the PL from the government.

Andy Burnham 'really concerned' if Man City owners sell up after rule breaches
The prime minister compares the allegations against Man City to the plight of his own club Everton.

She’s normally well-behaved if somewhat noisy in her carrier but last time we did this, she hadn’t been out that morning to do her constitutional so decided to do a dirty protest inside her carrier. I had to drive to the vet with the car windows down. Potent.

Can you imagine the fury from an organisation, set up by someone know in the HoL, to defend Free Speech? Me neither. Because this isn’t the sort of free speech they were set on defending.

This is a good point. £3.6m or £15m for Alan Shearer seems like nothing now, but compare it to relative spending power of other clubs at the time. It was still doping.

How the f- is any of this normal? Labour can choose to undo this immediately. Deproscribe Palestine Action. It was a disastrous decision by the Starmer admin and Burnham can undo it.

Maybe I’d have given you a different answer 5 yrs ago but I’m pleased that the extent to which NUFC have been able to go down the same route city did hasn’t really been open to us. We’ve now got (in theory at least) a direction of travel to get to be the club we all want us to be. Sustainably.
