Who cares about cache bro, just make your structs are like 500 bytes for your main drawing structure. Computers are gonna be fine.

Graphics Potentially Hot Take: Render Passes are okay to be part of the API. you will end up structuring your graphics code around render passes anyway

As a developer, the PS5 and Sony hardware are the most fun to develop for. As a consumer, the fumbles by Sony lately leave a lot to be desired. Big companies understand one thing, the bottom line, as such I'll speak with my wallet.

I'm seeing some really bad takes like "people are not using AI are essentially not using cars and use horses". These people are missing the point, just because cars exist doesn't mean people don't walk. Programming is a craft, use your AI, you are just not programming anymore, you are a reviewer.

Is there any library that can generate tight AABBs with minimal empty space? I know I can take the min/max and produce one AABB but my geometry has large holes in it and I wanna have multiple AABBs for it. I know it's more proper to do it at art/modeling time but that ship has sailed

I'm gonna put this out there, I will help anyone port their PS2 and PS1 (any retro game tbh) to current gen consoles (Switch 2, PS5 etc) pro-bono. There are a ton of PS1/PS2 games that would be amazing to port overall. I just wish I could go to these companies and say "give me the source code" >

One of the fun things I get to experience working on consoles is all the different ways things can break due to compiler and hardware differences. Recently ran into an issue/difference between arm and x64, where a float to u64 cast was causing a cascades of errors that ended up as an animation bug

Here is something funny happening to my laptop. The screen is dying. Which when connected to two monitors also fucks with one of the other monitors and slows the entire computer down. I would love to know what kinda hardware interrupt shenanigans is happening there

New age verification method: show someone a game from the 1990s and ask when the game came out. If the answer is "a couple of years ago" said person is above 18 if they say "I don't know, probably an old game" they are likely to be below 18

Here is the thing, if you look at history we see how cats were beloved by all. Across cultures. If you take any moment and watch the news or social media, you will quickly realize that our love for cats right now will extend into the future as history. Love cats. Long live the cats

I have (very likely not the only person) a very panicky attitude whenever I hit something that I don't know and can't figure out quickly. It produces a lot of anxiety and nervousness. Like I'm about to be judged as utterly incompetent. A healthier mindset would be one of excitement for learning

Given I couldn't be arsed to write my own full .sln parser and I couldn't get imgui to work on C# (too much pain), I opted into just outputting a json of the sln. Its just a matter of gathering the info and yeet it into some 2D node graph

This definitely is a skill issue but I really dislike inheritance, not for anyone ideological reasons mind you, purely because I don't know what code gets executed unless I run the code and step through it. Not having the ability to read the code is really difficult.

Actual peak debugging/investigation of render work: - Add Live++ to your engine/game - Run your game through renderdoc - Attach Visual Studio. - Edit/Reload cycle with captures at your finger tips for both GPU and CPU.

"Don't make your own engine" is a lie propagated by Big Engine. You should absolutely make your own engine, just tailor it to your own game. Your game doesn't need 52 thousand combinations of shaders. You don't need state of the art lighting. Just put the pixels in the bag bro and call it a game.

Every studio that gets caught with it's pants down when it comes to AI uses the same excuse. "We used it for early stages, not the final game" I think I speak on solid ground to say A) nothing is more permanent than a temp solution

Personal Opinion: I think that if you are an artist, programmer, or <insert job title here> and you take yourself seriously and consider what you do as a craft then the use of AI just goes counter to that whole idea. Like what do you mean as an artist you use gen AI? where even the fun in that?

From time to time, I get hyper interested in GPU hardware but idk where I can read about the nitty gritty detail. For example Nvidia says warps are scheduled via the Warp Scheduler and the instructions for those Warps are issued by the Dispatch Unit. for some reason wanna know exactly how this works
