A few months ago, White House officials paused most of its country-specific tariffs in order to negotiate trade deals. “90 deals in 90 days,” they promised. The deadline has passed, but few deals have emerged. Now, Donald Trump is threatening to move forward with his tariffs. “The guy’s doubled down,” observes economist Justin Wolfers, who adds that he’s “terrified” that the tariffs will reignite chaos this summer. And as Trump continues to antagonize dozens of countries, global alliances are shifting and leaving America behind. “Everyone else is off making new friends and we’re the kid that just sat down and farted at the lunch table,” Wolfers says.
![At a hearing this week, the case against Méndez was thrown out after Department of Homeland Security (DHS) attorneys failed to present a charging document.
"The judge said, I'm going to deem this a failure to prosecute and the case is closed, dismissed," Méndez's attorney, Ondine Galvez Sniffin, told
NBC 10. "That's it."
Sniffin said the DHS attorney did not say a single word.
"He could have said, Your honor, we'll be filing [charges] within the hour.' Could have asked for a second call. Could have said they reserve the right to appeal," she said. "Absolute silence.
