I suspect that in the long term we'll realize applying "just be Extra Careful and review everything super thoroughly and you'll be fine" attitudes to bot-authored code will be just as ineffectual as it has been for all of the load-bearing, long-lived C code.

Feels like you could print a small greeting card run of sentiments like "Your project got posted to HN, and I'm sorry they were predictably very Hacker News about it" and dispense them all within a month or two.

We just released the first stable version of iroh, v1.0! Read about it: www.iroh.computer/blog/v1 We're super proud of where we landed with iroh's 1.0. Since version 0.35 it feels like we've entirely replaced the "engine underneath". Are you a fellow key-dialer? Come tell us how you use iroh!

Am I reading this right, the second ever board-approved project being funded by the Rust Foundation via their Innovation Lab is some AI thing created directly by two of the five Project Directors of the Foundation? Coolcoolcoolcool no doubt no doubt. Absolutely love that for us.

I have many more friends who like fantasy genre stuff than ones who don't, but so far I'm pretty sure I have not convinced a single one of them to try reading or watching Frieren and that bums me out. It was one of my top entertainment experiences last year. Even the dub is solid!

Count me out of the "big tent" worldview for tech community if it means hanging out with military/"defense" tech people whatsoever. I don't care how you rationalize it - more contributions, funding, clout, mindshare, whatever. No reward is worth the cost of helping people do a better job of killing.

If some trenchcoated, sunglasses-at-night man turned up to offer me a choice, and said I could take a blue pill and wake up in a simulation of 1999 while my body directly fueled a machine apocalypse, I would be snatching and dry-swallowing that blue pill before he could finish his second sentence.

Keep experiencing Rust CLI/TUI projects building compelling replacements for old C software with huge QOL improvements and often better perf/security, but then exhibiting major scope creep / scope sprawl after a year or two. Please just let good software be considered feature-complete, sometimes.

My go-to example of something that is technologically very long in the tooth but basically immortal due to network effects is BoardGameGeek. I have debated often whether I could make a more modern and pleasant UX for that niche without having that user base or all the domain-specific content ready.

We're definitely on the timeline where we wind up with a real life Wayland-Yutani in ~100 years. Honestly, that's like... kind of a hopeful take, even. If you put various contemporary CEOs into the world of the Alien movie franchise I have no reason to believe they'd be any less cruel to employees.
