I do a considerable amount of my Rust dev with CARGO_TARGET_DIR pointed at a 16 or 32GB ramdisk and that has similarly helped my mood a bit. (Viable on MacOS/Linux both!) Not entirely tenable for some hefty dependency trees, though, and I run cargo-sweep more often than daily out of necessity now.

I suspect that in the long term we'll realize applying "just be Extra Careful and review everything super thoroughly and you'll be fine" attitudes to bot-authored code will be just as ineffectual as it has been for all of the load-bearing, long-lived C code.

If the machine coding topic doesn't bother you there a few other prolific writers who embrace it and are easily discovered. The first-party WWDC videos were also a great starting point for me, as they are are more narrative/task-centric than the Developer docs site is wont to be. HTH!

Advanced beginner here, as I am proficient in other tech stacks and SWE generally. Honestly quite a lot of the teaching culture surrounding this tech stack is IME disproportionately hustle-heavy, very often trying to sell me a course or a book or a newsletter. I don't love that about it at all.

Sadly I don't think any of these are going to be especially quick & light for CI though, if you're on a "runs in a container image" type of platform like GHA or GitLab. It's not good odds to be in platforms hot caches or preinstalled, and xtask would be sensitive to all the same cargo caching steps.

You possibly could use the toml-edit crate directly if you're doing programmatic stuff, perhaps inside a cargo-xtask. github.com/matklad/carg... toml-edit preserves as much as it can of existing structure, order, comments and formatting, which will be nice for minimizing unnecessary diffs.

Minor correction of attribution: Caves is developed by Freehold Games, including @unormal.bsky.social and @jfg.land . Kitfox is only a publisher for this one and only became formally involved by 2024 for its 1.0 release. It had already been on Steam as early access for nearly 10 years at that point.

You can try "cargo tree -p <that new crate> -e features" to see if the new library toggled any build-time settings in something within bevy itself or its dependency tree, which is the main case where this would be intentional and correct behavior.

AI certainly makes it WAY worse, but every role I've held included encounters with the specific flavor of "Why Can't You Just..." question from coworkers. Rough shape goes: This is a tough, complex topic, but did you try this thing that occurred to me after pondering the problem for all of 30 sec?

there's like 101 legitimate reasons it might not be suitable for you, but I am generally pretty happy with the official obsidian sync product. I use it to access and write with my iPhone and iPad. All of the plugins and themes I've personally used still worked fine after sync to iOS, too.

If it's clear a thing could/will be made regardless, I just wait for a generally available retail release. My understanding from casual convos with a couple designers is that this is in fact counterproductive for them when they wanted preorders to forecast demand for physical production quantities.

Shane Sveller @shanesveller.bsky.social · 12/05/2026
Hard no, personally. I find this antithetical to the purpose of the platform or of crowdfunding in general. Some large established studios do it serially but that doesn't make it okay. For the players it's just traditional preorders with unwieldy extra steps and 0 consumer protections included.

The only assumption I'm consciously making was to expand the word sustainable to mean "sustainable to work on while needing regular food and housing". Not whether the code or project would experience longevity. Since if maintainers can't make ends meet, it's probably doomed in the long term.

OSS doesn't seem very sustainable for devs who don't do it on the side from their generous day job, or AS their day job. It's certainly nowhere near as lucrative as an average full-time SWE position for most maintainers - it's mostly synonymous with "volunteer" for people with less exceptional luck.

I have many more friends who like fantasy genre stuff than ones who don't, but so far I'm pretty sure I have not convinced a single one of them to try reading or watching Frieren and that bums me out. It was one of my top entertainment experiences last year. Even the dub is solid!

Count me out of the "big tent" worldview for tech community if it means hanging out with military/"defense" tech people whatsoever. I don't care how you rationalize it - more contributions, funding, clout, mindshare, whatever. No reward is worth the cost of helping people do a better job of killing.
