What I really admired about Band of Brothers is it follows technical aspects of war other than the infantryman POV: the officer directing different platoons to best effect in an engagement; or the medic to whom it doesn’t matter if they’re advancing or retreating, he just needs more supplies

The Wire is still incredibly good storytelling but the more I return to it the less I think it’s (for want of a better term) “smarter” than Breaking Bad or any of its other prestige peers. It’s a polemic with its finger heavily pressed on the scale.

Having Breaking Bad at the top is defensible. Having that much of a gap between Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul is not. I wouldn’t say “they’re basically the same show,” but everything that makes either of them great is amply present in its sibling.
