I’ve had it up to here with the Movie Grid’s constant rotation of Tom Holland/Andrew Garfield/Tobey Maguire requiring me to remember which iteration of the Spiderverse has all of them in it Movie Grid - 10/07/2026: 7/9 Correct Score: 1907 🟩🟩🟩 ⬜🟩⬜ 🟩🟩🟩 www.moviegrid.io

Even if he presented as slick and competent it’s just bizarre that he is constantly making public appearances. I couldn’t even name a defence secretary prior to him other than Rumsfeld, probably because they had better things to be doing with their time

When I played Social Democracy by @red-autumn.itch.io last year I could never manage a better result than a civil war which left hundreds of thousands dead and only stopped by foreign intervention… and it struck me this was still a better outcome than what happened in real life

I do not understand why it takes so long for pharmacists to fill a prescription. It is a bottle sitting on a shelf that has come to your pharmacy from a factory. This is not the Old West, you are not mixing shit up with beakers back there

It has crossed my mind that in the unlikely event they form govt here that might actually be good in the long run as the rest of the country will have 18 months to observe the chaos that ensues

Didn’t answer the question - who is “comfortable” on the matter of how much Western countries should assist an invaded European democracy? Whose cage is being rattled when Shoebridge rejects providing military aid as a matter of universal principle?

As I said it’s a last straw moment for me not a red line. My beliefs have simply become more aligned with ALP policy than Greens over time. (Eg I am not particularly pro Aukus but Shoebridge’s position is reflexively against the American alliance entirely, which I disagree with)

Who is in the comfortable cage on this particular issue? The people in Kyiv who’ve been getting bombed by fascists for four years?

I'm a left-of-Labor voter, which has often meant voting 1 for the Greens. You'd be right surmising my politics are pretty anti-war too. But failing to aid Ukraine's defence against invasion is loathsome and the purported principle invoked is one that does not meet the moment

New Greens leader: No weapons for Ukraine, curtail the US alliance

Lots of American companies made lots of money out of Lend-lease in the 1940s too. So what?

Shane Carrow @shanecarrow.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
On this very particular issue the answer to that is obvious, as Shoebridge has helpfully made clear

Every time this crops up I’m reminded of how the opening interview of Working by Studs Terkel is with a steel mill worker who talks about how much he hates his shitty job that has ruined his body and how he’s saving to send his kids to college so they don’t have to do anything remotely similar

Vance Downplays Watergate and Compares Himself to Nixon

The Terror s1, about a doomed 19th century Arctic expedition. One of those shows where every aspect - the acting, the writing, the cinematography, the set design, the soundtrack - is near perfect. Tremendous story about leadership and brotherhood.

What I really admired about Band of Brothers is it follows technical aspects of war other than the infantryman POV: the officer directing different platoons to best effect in an engagement; or the medic to whom it doesn’t matter if they’re advancing or retreating, he just needs more supplies

The Wire is still incredibly good storytelling but the more I return to it the less I think it’s (for want of a better term) “smarter” than Breaking Bad or any of its other prestige peers. It’s a polemic with its finger heavily pressed on the scale.

Having Breaking Bad at the top is defensible. Having that much of a gap between Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul is not. I wouldn’t say “they’re basically the same show,” but everything that makes either of them great is amply present in its sibling.
