How did Insomniac make Marvel’s Wolverine more accessible? I spoke with Michele Zorrilla and Sam Schaffel from @insomniac.games about high-contrast shaders, traversal assist, combat cues, violence settings, and the research behind it all. Watch: youtu.be/hPvcpzUBCVU

6) Marvel's Wolverine - @insomniac.games I beat this game on the hardest difficulty, which is something I have never done before. I legit had a great time playing this. I loved the challenge of it, and because of the accessibility, it's one of my favourite games of the year.

Saying one of the most prolific live service titles “fell short of expectations” in a massive layoff announcement is a slap in the face to every dev and every player who knows how much Destiny meant in an industry where longevity is rare. Whose expectations did it fail? The investors? The execs?

"Game dev is one of those jobs you only do when you really want to. It's not going to make your parents proud, you're unlikely to get rich in an industry that lays off people for making superhits, and its a demanding & confrontative job. Why would you let a machine do the thing you're here to do?"

I'm so happy to see the pride folks have from working on initiatives we led via Black at Bungie. And to clarify, with the help of the Bungie Foundation and the amazing fans, the pin and emblem he's talking about raised $425,000 for the Equal Justice Initiative in the first year!

bungie, former destiny 2 devs told me, was a fraught work environment, but many devs and teams did what they consider to be career-best work despite that
In general what I enjoyed about our work on the open world content was that we were able to do weird stuff and take character-motivated swings. Devrim Kay, Failsafe, Sloan, and Asher Mir are a pretty wild lineup. And it was great being able to explore very different aspects of the world than you could see through the eyes of Zavala / Cayde / Ikora.
Working at Bungie was the most toxic, dysfunctional experience of my professional life. But the incredible people that I got the chance to work with were some of the best in the world at what they do, and I consider all of them friends to this day.

The thing to take away about Destiny 2's fate is that shit takes a long time in game dev. The discussions we were having a year or two ago are echoing as fixes in this final patch. The dour community mood from a year ago killed it now. Echoes & shadows of years past affect games more than you think.

and the Epilogue
"All endings are beginnings."

This has never been more true in Destiny's history. While the Final Shape concluded the Light & Dark saga, there's so much more to come from Destiny. The past is the past, and where we go from here are frontiers that we have never explored before, and stories we have always wanted to tell.

Until then, see you in the stars.

I'm reminded of this observation -- Somewhere along that lower gradient men cease to see woman as people. And I sorta think it might be at about the 25% mark, to be honest.
A viral image showing two bars. The top one is how men see other men: it's 90% white and labelled "good men", and about 10% red labelled "crazed evil men".

The bottom bar is labelled "but it's actually closer to this" and it shows a detailed gradient between white on the left and red on the right, with progressively bad labels like "well-meaning men who underestimate the issue" and "men who think certain women deserve it", culminating in "monsters so cruel we can't even fathom."

A free-to-play PVP shooter, Highguard had a strong launch--around 100,000 people were playing on Steam on its first day--but couldn't sustain those numbers, in ways that...look, you know what, why am I even talking about those figures, writers always do that when talking about layoffs like this, is there even much point trying to dissect the numbers of a game that took years to make, but where ‘most’ of the team gets laid off just two weeks after it came out? Loads of people are now reportedly out of a job, and whatever reasons people can offer or accept for it, none of it seems sane or sustainable.

One aspect of hip hop that I don't see much discussion around is when artists reference past rap songs in their lyrics. For example in the J Cole song Sparks Will Fly he says: "I love you like a fat kid loves cake and shit, I love you like a bad kid loves breaking shit." youtu.be/aLNksgXTSKc?...
