How do you measure "earn more money"? In the early years after my university education, I made low wages in an editorial job, and then made a meager living as a freelancer. Eventually I did very well, and I like to think what I've done means more to me and a few others than, say, me as a banker.

In the well-over 100,000 documents written by founders included in the Founders Online database from the National Archives, no one uses the phrase "God's noble experiment." No one.
Chuck Schumer: "The founding fathers called America God's noble experiment. I believe in all three words to this day: we are one nation under God, we have clung to noble ideals for longer than any other nation, and we are an experiment always changing, trying to make ourselves better.

primary every centrist democrat
If Democrats want a role model ahead of this year's midterm elections, they could not do better
than Analilia Mejia, the newest member of Congress. The winner of an April special election to fill a suburban New Jersey seat that party insiders thought would favor a centrist, Mejía, a former political director for Senator Bernie Sanders and the director of the New Jersey Working Families Alliance, ran as a progressive who was prepared to take on the "bosses and bullies in both parties to get things done." After emerging as the victor in a crowded and complicated primary—in which she backed Medicare for All, guaranteed paid sick leave, and a moratorium on AI data centers; accurately described Israel's assault on Gaza as a genocide; and declared that "it's time to abolish ICE"—Mejía won the general election by a 20-point margin (more than double the margin that the district gave Kamala Harris in 2024). Mejía embraced her mandate by immediately proposing to raise the federal minimum wage to $25 an hour.

Hear me out, okay. Southerners love their college sports teams. Just imagine. Again, hear me out. Imagine if Black families told their five and four-star student athletes that it would break their hearts and that of their grandparents if they attended schools like Auburn, Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas, Tennessee, etc., because you will be nothing but a spectacle mule to them. Tell those colleges that we do not attend schools in places that practice Jim Crow and engage in the act of weakening our franchise via constructing zones that work against the Voting Rights Act. Black folks are all excited about their kids participating in a form of white supremacy where the majority of fans in the stadium walked into the ballot booth, and made decisions that will set us...Black people... back for decades. Black people. It starts with our protest. If white folks love their sports teams, let us give them back. They can have the all-white teams as they had in the days of old. We all just have to care.

The king's head has been replaced with a character who was used as the basis for MAD Magazine's Alfred E Neumann. The new head sports a conical dunce cap. Behind the king is a UK Reform Party rosette. The background is an Egyptian temple, ganked from a Dore Old Testament engraving. The floor has been carpeted in sumptuous tabriz from the Ottoman court.

This has some parallels in #nzpol
No doubt, Lutnick was bullshitting, and he was bullshitting because he understands himself to live in a world constrained only by the whims and attention span of his boss, rather than the basic contours of reality that the rest of us navigate by way of quaint norms around truth and honesty. The Trump administration sustains this carelessness by holding onto a raft of genuine insight amid the sea of delusion: it has, up until now, been extraordinarily successful in making other people pay the price for its mistakes and crimes. But that raft is thin. The structure whose supports our elites are steadily kicking down is also the one that props up their own personal safety from disaster and political invulnerability to accountability. And all of this can go away.
