Helice Clouded Yellow - please forgive the poor quality screenshot, it was difficult to photograph in windy conditions, but I was delighted to see my first example of this form at NCW today.

This Hobby was running about on East Holm, North Cave Wetlands, attempting to catch unseen prey. First time I have seen one hunting like this.

A very short video of the Hobby at NCW. I love the way it remains unmoved in the very strong wind.

This Hobby is being very obliging at North Cave Wetlands (NCW) East Yorkshire. It has been using the same tree as a base for its hunting sorties for a few days now. @northcavewet.bsky.social

This bird at North Cave Wetlands is being described as hybrid. Any thoughts welcome. Can Ruddy Shelducks at any age ever look like this? If it is a hybrid, any thoughts on parents? Thanks.

I haven’t seen many Brent Geese at NCW, the ones I have seen have all been dark-bellied. So it was great to hear about then connect with this pale-bellied bird today.

Smew, these 4 birds, 2 drakes, and 2 red-heads, constitutes the largest flock ever recorded at North Cave Wetlands. It is almost 30 years since the last and only previous male was recorded on the reserve when it was present with 2 red-heads from 18/2/1996 to 25/2/1996 @northcavewet.bsky.social
