🎉 HUGE YIMBY WIN! 🎉 The 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act has officially passed Congress! This is the most significant federal housing legislation in more than 30 years, and reflects a growing national consensus: we cannot solve housing affordability without building more homes. 🏘️

Sneak-Peek Walking Tour of Lark Landing
Once a tangle of freeway ramps and parking lots, the Transbay District is San Francisco’s premier transit-oriented neighborhood with over 4,500 housing units, including 1,200 affordable apartments, built in the last 15 years. Come join D9 Neighbors for Housing for a tour of the newest addition to the neighborhood, Mercy Housing’s Lark Landing, which will open 184 new homes to low-income families this May. The fresh, contemporary design features luminous family apartments with great views, amenities and roof gardens distributed across its 17-story height. A new childcare center, bookstore, and Mexican bakery will bring life to the streets around it. The building’s architects, Kennerly Architecture & Planning, will guide the tour and share details of its design and development, as well as the site’s fascinating history. RSVP for exact location information. Space is limited, and an RSVP is required.

Our Executive Director Laura Foote's op-ed was featured in @richmond.com on why one provision in the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act could detract from an otherwise HUGE pro-housing bill. Banning build-to-rent homes won’t lower costs, it limits options and reduces the supply of homes available.

SAN FRANCISCO - SF YIMBY is disappointed by Supervisor Wong’s recent actions toward the affordable housing project being constructed at 2550 Irving. His decision to create an inflammatory, NIMBY petition purporting risks to public health is based on scientifically unfounded claims that were thoroughly disproven during the permitting process. This project has brought hundreds of much needed affordable homes to the Outer Sunset, and it has done so safely.

We are also disappointed by and, frankly, surprised at Supervisor Wong’s decision to oppose senior affordable housing at 1234 Great Highway. We urge him to rise to the occasion of addressing San Francisco’s immense affordability crisis by leading on solutions.

We appreciate Supervisor Wong’s support of the Family Zoning Plan and continue to see him as the most pro-housing candidate in the upcoming District 4 supervisorial election. However, we expect better from a city supervisor than peddling NIMBY conspiracy theories and opposing affordable housing projects in his district. Support for affordable homes in the Sunset District comprises an important pillar of San Francisco’s commitment to affirmatively further fair housing and is a necessary component of compliance with California’s pro-housing laws.

We call on Supervisor Wong to both rescind his petition and endorse the proposed project at 1234 Great Highway.Alan Wong anti-housing petition graphic

Scott Wiener passed laws that made it easier to build in California. Can he do the same in Congress?
If elected, will the prolific Wiener get housing laws passed at a national level? Or will Congress' tendency to inaction win out?

Manny's

3092 16th St (16th and Valencia)
San Francisco, CA 94103

San Francisco is facing real challenges around housing, infrastructure, transit, and city finances. Many of these issues share a common root: development patterns that are expensive to maintain and hard to adapt over time.

Join Strong Towns, the Strong Towns San Francisco Local Conversation, and San Francisco YIMBY for a casual meetup focused on the underlying financial condition of San Francisco and how decades of suburban-style development have shaped today’s housing and budget debates.

Norm Van Eeden Petersman from Strong Towns will give a short, San Francisco–specific talk, followed by open discussion and shared learning across movements working toward a more abundant, resilient city.

Whether you come from YIMBY advocacy, local organizing, or simple curiosity about how cities really function, this is a space to connect ideas and people.

No tickets or signup required, this is a free event and the venue has a lot of nearby Muni lines plus a BART station a block away. We hope to see you there and please feel free to bring along a friend who is interested in housing, transit, infrastructure, urban design, or city finances.

After the event, anyone who wants to continue the conversation is welcome to walk over to Standard Deviant Brewing (14th St). Look for the Strong Towns shirt.
