Everybody’s talking about this shocking Sankey diagram

a “Sankey diagram,” a graphical display of information, in which there are inputs on one side and outputs on the other. The diagram is labeled “Transportation Funding Flows from Public and Private Interests to Auto and Oil Industries.” Of money spent by consumers on vehicles, fuel, and maintenance, and various sources of government funding, a large share ends up in the aforementioned industry.

also appreciate this description of Odysseus, in language that is almost word for word accurate about another many-turning character portrayed by Matt Damon, Tom Ripley:

In the original Odyssey, Odysseus is a charismatic, loquacious, amoral, cunning scoundrel. He unabashedly lies, cheats, steals, manipulates, puts people who trust him in harm's way, and outright murders to get what he wants, and he's clever enough that he usually gets away with it.
He is constantly inventing elaborate fake identities and backstories for himself. He is also arrogant, bordering on narcissistic.
His vengeance, although it is slow and carefully planned, is also terrible and implacable, and he will not stop until he utterly destroys all those who have wronged him.
