It's your tinker genet. Viverridae vivacious. Can't see the greymuzzle if already a grey genet. They/them. Maker of things, crisper of circuitry, sculpter of stuff. Ebikes, furry things, electronics tinkering and props.

So if we have "Energy cells" and "Power cells", surely this means "Plasma cells" can't be far behind, and we get pew pews?

I should laser-cut a plaque to stealthily install on it somewhere. Just a little "you did the absolute minimum" nose-thumb for the local planners.

Also, to enter the "lane" requires you to either ride over a sidewalk, or down the shoulder of a road with no sidewalks. Or directly through a pedestrian crosswalk with traffic doing 60 at your back. It is a good candidate for the GVRD's worst "lane". The gold star "You Tried" lane.

So, so many "travel problems" are rooted in roads designed solely around car culture with zero concept of any other existence. I like that they finally put in a bike lane locally on the 60 zone. It runs exactly two blocks, is on a sidewalk with no barrier, and the far end is... just a sidewalk.

Happy Spooky Month from the things wot go sniff and scoot in the night. [Genet prowl!]
A large-spotted genet, inquisitively sniffing about the forest floor for morsels in the light of a camera setup. Nose and whiskers to the ground, this nocturnal viverrid is in their element, alert but relaxed; no threat crest raised on its hackles, ringstriped tail low and loose.

It was surreal; ended up turning into this whorled mess as parts of it expanded and contracted under the light, so the buttons ended up as curved bean-shapes, the top grill started spiraling before it drooped entirely into the circ. Surprisingly still worked as a clock, but the buttons were fused.

I had one of those clocks, but I'm not amplifying that AI-posting account there Shame I can't have a lamp accident that did in the clock the same way with the slop machine, though. Left an IKEA arm lamp in the wrong position with a toasty incandescent bulb. Drooped over the clock. Clock became art.

One of the hardest things about being a cyclist is dealing with the nagging feeling that a serious crash is inevitable. Because you can indeed do everything "right" and it still does not matter.
I followed every precaution and it didn’t matter

New to biking here

I started in July around the time of the fatal car crash with that biker. That and hearing everyone who bikes to work tell me that they have had horrid experiences with cars was disheartening.

I made sure to only use protected routes. I take Southwest corridor for basically my whole trip and even though it adds so much more time to my commute, it makes me feel safe.

None of that mattered because at some point, even for a second you will hit the main road. And you will always lose to the 4 ton machine. I got hit by a car parking in the bike lane. He was more concerned with his car than the fact that I could have my life potential altered forever because he was looking at his phone. And at the end of the day, the police can literally choose to not respond to your 911 call and you get stuck with medical bills.

It’s hard to have a conversation about sharing the road when people in cars feel entitled to do whatever they want and the only person who’s ever in danger is the biker. I love biking in this city and I have found a really love and joy for the outdoors because of it. Now I am terrified to even get on a bike lane, even if there is one, if it’s shared with the main road.

Oh, that thing would *definitely* be an excellent way to break a leg if mishandled. Or break an everything, probably. Absurdly top heavy, and the sole concept of throttle management is "don't goose it too hard". Speed limits? Pff. Actual speedometer, even? PFF. Display? PFFFFF.

There's also the staff-built monstrosity in the shop. It's a knee scooter, like, the kind of thing you ride around on as a substitute for crutches with a broken leg. Four wheels. Two of which are motorized and *definitely* not low speed. Cursed thing can spin its tires, on smooth concrete.

I don't think I'd want to do that on a fairly short, weirdly balanced rickshaw with a cargo bed that's sort of "bakfiets but a tricycle and made of mixed steel". This is how the heavy beastie has a physics argument with the rider it outweighs. :D

There's a tadpole-trike cargo rickshaw I've been tempted to adopt. Never mind that it currently has *rusty* coaster brakes, questionable welds on a steel frame, odd geometry... Genet brain insists it would be so much fun as a dual motor build!

Said shitposting satellite intercom lasers are, themselves, not particularly capable of much more than shitposting between his constellation of Kessler additions.
120
Siddeley Genet @sergalprojects.bsky.social · 23/09/2026
You might be able to laser something to death from orbit if you could convince it to hold still for ten seconds while painted black and standing in volatiles. It would only take a nuclear powered satellite somewhat larger than the ISS. Musk's babbling about his shitposting data-intercom lasers.
130
Siddeley Genet @sergalprojects.bsky.social · 23/09/2026
This also was at ploddingly slow speeds and miniscule range compared to orbit. Orbit also has to contend with the lensing atmosphere, inconvenient things like clouds, and that pesky "keeping it focused" problem. Also that the atmosphere practically drinks the useful "weapon laser" wavelengths.
110
Siddeley Genet @sergalprojects.bsky.social · 23/09/2026
For the less steeped in physics: Keeping a laser focused to "laser focus" becomes increasingly difficult over distance. The tighter the focus, the more "damaging". The best efforts at weaponizing atmospheric lasers could destroy missiles. Over several seconds. By heating them. Not cutting.
120
Siddeley Genet @sergalprojects.bsky.social · 23/09/2026
Seems like the kind of thing he'd brag about, ignorant of just how bad at "being a weapon" lasers from orbit to ground would actually be, but it sounds cool! It sounds edgy and evil to have space lasers! He's not an ignorant manlet that managed to buy enough talent for him to steal cred from!

Even the failed parts out of the machine shop end up looking like intricate sculpture; if I had a time machine, I'd go back and learn how to do this, just for the art. Sometimes end up with QC rejects or interesting pieces of laser scrap; turned some of the aluminum lasercuts into Borg set-dec.

It's a CNC-machined through-axle core for a fatbike style e-bike direct drive motor. Stator mounts overtop of this hardware, bearings fit onto it at the flanges, and the neat "looks like a spaceship gravity deck" segment has those holes just to shave off a couple grams of weight.
000
Siddeley Genet @sergalprojects.bsky.social · 23/09/2026
I feel like this'd be one of your River Forge ships, @tinselfire.bsky.social It's actually a through-axle, hub motor stator core mount, but it does have a Tiny Spin-deck Shippy look to it.
A shiny aluminum CNC milled axle core for an ebike hub motor. Three flanges extend out from a tubular, machine-tooling polished central tube, for bearing mounts and other hardware to sit on when this piece is complete, but this raw part never made it far enough to receive them, cut short by a machining defect. The largest ring of three has holes and sockets cut into it, partly for lightening, and partly to interface with the spokes of the motor stator that is not attached.
