I don’t know what to put here and that makes me anxious 👍 BOS, housing, transit, misc. fixations 🙅‍♀️ “Framingham Line Train 509 is operating 15-25 minutes late between South Station and Framingham”

I’m not the first person to make this observation but the prevalence of nauseating ai-generated business logos means stuff like this hits CRAZY for me now

I emailed Culpepper and Worrell to ask them to commute to city hall by bus from Mattapan station and didn’t hear back. It’s actually depressing. No one trusts experts or believes better things are possible. The people who need this most aren’t being brought to the forefront.

What we’re seeing roll out in South Boston, where a minor mistake by a poll worker is being twisted to suggest that only Sen. Collins was “omitted” from the ballot, and the incident, blown up to sow doubt in the entire process, is a prelude to what’s coming with Trump 2028. Bookmark this tweet.

When will our nation have the courage to do what is right: Pay reparations to drivers who have lost untold hours stalled on roads that are hostile to cars and clogged with bike lanes, littered with crosswalks, and surrounded by draconian "No Turn on Red" signs

Please 🙏 I hope this isn’t just Harvard doing stuff. I will give the city credit once I see the full thing done. I’ve been dreading biking on Western Ave. Cyclists need this corridor. I hope the city follows through on their promise for better curb management to help businesses.

NIMBY outcry regarding 920 Centre Street feels a lot like flat eartherism. It falls apart as soon as you get beyond the slogans/signs about shadows ruining the Arboretum, and look at a map. It also helps to recall that we live in the northern hemisphere. Reality is not biased in favor of NIMBYism.

Looking forward to Neighborhood Housing Zoning Initiative as well. So far in meetings, a lot of Bostonians are asking, “how soon can we get this, I want an ADU!” @mayorwu.boston.gov please stand behind the planning dept. to achieve equitable, comprehensible zoning in this city.

Not even the @boston.gov City Council President can get her calls returned from Mayor Wu's streets cabinet. I guess it's nice to know it's not just us? Story here: mass.streetsblog.org/2026/07/24/b...
Text from a Streetsblog article:

Breadon also revealed that, even as the City Council president, she can’t get her calls returned from the Boston Transportation Department’s current leadership.

“Over the past four months I’ve sent five separate emails to the streets cabinet, asking for the re-installation of bike lane buffers in our neighborhood,” said Breadon. “I have yet to receive a response. This status quo is unacceptable.”

This is peak both sides bullshit, because bike lane opponents don't care about "creating safe streets for everyone." They care about parking and being able to speed. And they draw false equivalences between drivers and bikers that car-brained pundits like Joan Venocchi lap up eagerly. Such garbage.
What should not be lost in the emotion of the moment is the need for balance and openness to different points of view when it comes to creating safe streets for everyone. The perception that both were lacking under Wu gave Kraft an opportunity on the bike lane issue. While he was never able to capitalize on it beyond the loud cheers he got for mentioning it at his announcement, he did force Wu to acknowledge there is more than one side to the bicycle lane debate. It’s the side of businesses that say they lose customer parking spaces to bike lanes as well as the side of pedestrians who dodge people on bicycles, e-bikes, and scooters who ignore red lights and other rules of the road.

Hot take but I think they should either do the BRT or do nothing except for pedestrian safety. Half-assed BRT (including the Silver Line!) fails to deliver. Implementing the center lanes may be unpopular now but the alternative is spending millions to not deliver any real improvements.

I have to restrict my usage of Nextdoor because people are infuriating. Every removal of a lane or parking spot is seen as an affront to all elderly or disabled people. They can only conceive of these classes of people as entirely car dependent. Fuck blind people (and many others), I guess 😒

HOT TAKE: Contemporary US protest signs (including the cringe ones) play a crucial role in re-inscribing internet culture back into corporeal everyday life. Seeing online jokes handwritten onto cardboard signs is awkward, sure, but it's also a form of reality-testing or reality-reassurance.

Bukele doesn't "have something" on Trump. Trump isn't afraid to fight for Garcia's return. He doesn't want him returned. Trump and Bukele are engaged in a mutually-beneficial authoritarian partnership designed to profit off the destruction of legal protections. That's it. It isn't that hard.

What’s troubling is that Josh Kraft is knowingly playing Trump’s game, almost as if they’re in sync. Kraft knows Wu’s record (record lows, provable). Yet he claims he can do better, painting a dark city, tapping into fears. The Wu admin can always improve, but is the picture Kraft paints fair?

Nextdoor is a frustrating place full of NIMBYs. I suppose it’s good to get out of the echo chamber and recognize that my views are still not that popular.
A screenshot of an except of a thread from Nextdoor. Names are redacted. The first message reads, “but why do we need to overcrowd every space - the more they build the more crowded they’ve become - most of these “affordable” buildings are not housing Cambridge residents”. A reply to this first comment reads, “do people not become residents of Cambridge by living in these buildings located in Cambridge?”

I’m wary of the rent control percentage. A 10% max is far more than what my rent increase has been the last few years with my landlord. Granted I am lucky but, my landlord would be compliant even with increasing my rent much more. So they get a 20% tax refund for doing nothing, or charging more?

Another thought: people need to honestly look at Western Ave before and after the bike lanes. Are the cars blocking the view of crosswalks more or less visually noisy than evenly-spaced white poles? Just say you think they look ugly. That’s fine, I think they’re kinda ugly too.

One important political principle for Reconstruction Democrats when shaping policy is to weight the opinions of people who are afraid of change considerably lower than those who are open to change. We need to get more comfortable telling people, “Sorry, the world has moved on, move with it.”
