Reposted by Markus BiggusChris Bowen @chrisbowenmp.bsky.social · 10hLast month renewable energy generated more electricity in the national grid than fossil fuels. It's only the second time in Australian history that this has occurred, the first being last year. We've come a long way, and there's a lot more to do. 44911
Markus Biggus @serendipidude.bsky.social · 10hI'm sure it does. My background is cybersecurity. I've personally worked on issues with Chinese tech doing dodgy stuff it isn't supposed to. Comms gear was banned for very good cybersecurity concerns. There is no reason to think the same things can't be done to other networked devices. 010
Markus Biggus @serendipidude.bsky.social · 10hUnless you educate yourself on what the cybersecurity issues are, there really is no point engaging with you. 000
Markus Biggus @serendipidude.bsky.social · 10hMe neither. I've not mentioned cars being banned. That's just you deliberately obfuscating the issue. 100
Markus Biggus @serendipidude.bsky.social · 10hMost don't have physical SIMs that can be removed easily. Turning off network connectivity has far more consequences than not getting updates. Sure, they still kinda work. Better to buy more trustworthy tech and use what you paid for. 100
Markus Biggus @serendipidude.bsky.social · 10hSo all the western governments banning Chinese tech on security grounds is just tosh. You clearly know very little about cybersecurity threats. 200
Markus Biggus @serendipidude.bsky.social · 12hThe real risk is same as comms equipment banned by governments over cybersecurity concerns. They do OTA updates and likely stop working as soon as anything kicks off with USA. Same for phones and batteries. That’s why they’re so cheap, market penetration needed to be successful. 200
Markus Biggus @serendipidude.bsky.social · 12hConservative are forever predicting the future to justify present actions. They’re never right. Ever. Past performance of being wrong every time is indeed predictive of future performance! 010
Markus Biggus @serendipidude.bsky.social · 18hConservative political parties are like a perpetual schadenfreude machine. They hate each other as much as I hate them all. This time of jostling for pre-selection, in run up to campaign start, is when prime schadenfreude is at its best. 011

Markus Biggus @serendipidude.bsky.social · 18hWithin a month or so, no one who worked in the computer room wore a tie at work. We were the talk of the office for some time. 000
Markus Biggus @serendipidude.bsky.social · 18hIn 1978 I was a total radical that appalled some, by not wearing a tie in the office. My job was in a computer room where hard disks were manually swapped many times a day. My tie would reach into the disk bay as I lent over to change the platters that were about 2 feet wide stacked 1 foot high. 100
Markus Biggus @serendipidude.bsky.social · 18hTotally expect a follow up article to reveal the majority of devices had a default password that wasn't changed. To businesses everywhere, do not connect stuff to the Internet if you don't have qualified staff on hand to ensure its done securely. 000
