“I like <i>you</i> that much.”
Ugh. Lio’s heart skipped a beat at that despite his better judgment, and he mentally cursed himself for being so attracted to every little thing Galo did. The big lug didn’t even know what he was saying, or what he did to Lio.
“I like you too,” Lio said, allowing himself that small indulgence. Galo didn’t need to know that he meant it in a different way, or just how often he thought about what might happen if he actually admitted it out loud. “By the way, thanks. For saving me.”

Galo waved his hand, as if to dismiss the thought. “I’d do it again!”
“Would you,” replied Lio. The memory was still fresh in his mind. Truth be told, Galo even made him stupid enough to think that the whole kiss of life thing had actually been kind of romantic, even if Galo had just been doing his job.
“Yeah, totally! Every day, if I had to. I’m great at CPR!”

“I just worry about you ‘cause I love you.”

Lio hummed. Of course, Galo didn’t mean it like <i>that</i>. He was just the sort of guy who gave his affection freely, and Lio was often the proud recipient of that affection. It made Lio’s insides feel like they were melting in the best possible way, but so what? He could enjoy it, and not think too hard about what Galo would do if he knew the depth of Lio’s feelings.

“I know,” said Lio, unable to hide his own fondness. He couldn’t tell you just when he’d fallen in love with Galo, it was just something that he’d noticed in himself, out of the blue, like it had always been there. Just the <i>feeling</i> was almost too much for him, almost bursting out of his body, threatening to take him over entirely. He could tell Galo later, when he was tired of wondering. For now, even this was enough. “You know I like you too,” he added, allowing himself that small indulgence.

“Hard not to, yeah?”

“And straight to bragging…” He rested his chin in his hand, watching in amusement as Galo rapidly swapped between chatting and making sure the sauce didn’t burn. There was no need for him to turn around every time Lio said anything, but he still did. “I guess you’ve got plenty to brag about. We did save the world.”

“I wasn’t even thinking about that.” Galo grinned, the same way he did every time they talked about this, which was often, and it seemed unlikely they’d ever stop.

“I think you were.”

“I think…” Galo made a point to turn off the stove’s burners, dinner presumably more or less finished, before he turned around to surprise Lio with a gentle <i>boop!</i> on the nose. “I’m really glad you’re alive. And I’d save you again, a billion times if I had to.”

“Uh-huh?” Lio said, his breath catching unexpectedly in his throat. Their faces were suddenly much closer, and Galo was being ridiculously sweet. Did he have any idea what he was doing? “Would you?”

“Yeah, totally! Every day, if I had to. I’m great at CPR!”
