Description:
This illustration pertains to much of Boris' character in general. His succumb to hopelessness, seeking power instead of love, losing his innocence and his whimsy.
The frail butterfly symbolizes what remains of his inner child (this is also why Boris likes Aiden, who i also associated with butterflies, because he subconsciously reminds Bo of who he used to be) and the crows are the jaded violence he has been taught to use to feel less small. By habit, they seek to destroy any traces of incorruption - because what if it makes him the weak one again?

some exploration for my oc Boris' crow beast form 🐦‍⬛❤️

A sketchpage of a crow-like beast with a bare crow-skull for a face, long neck and humanoid body with long feathers tapered along its arms. It's form is covered in shorter feathers, an eerie red glow coming from it's chest and it's eyes. It has long clumps of hair coming from atop its head and pointy ears with golden piercings.
To the left is a fullbody image of the creature, and to the right are two fullbody sketches and a portrait. There are tiny notes around detailing these features.

Description:
I’ve been writing a lot for my comic lately and, without spoiling too much, Boris is supposed to turn into this huge crow beast at the height of the story’s conclusion.
I’ve had it in my head for years, but never actually drew this form! So while I was away from home the last few days, I’ve been doodling some concepts in my hotel room.
The transformation is extremely painful for him, literally coming out from within his bones like a person growing inside of his chest cavity until it breaks apart and this new form is set free. The beast feeds on fear and insecurity, the result of a spiral that had been mounting on him for years and years until he couldn’t keep it away any longer, no one there to help him out of it.

I wanted him to be dark, unsettling and gaunt in appearance while still looking strong and powerful. I haven’t settled on anything just yet but I really like where it’s going and the look of this first draft….

Weirdly, even though his face is a literal crow skull, it still looks like him to me and it makes me soft 😔

Have you spent time trying to write or revise with AI? Is there an experiment that would be interesting enough to try?

I have not. Not for a second. To me, this whole idea of using AI to write is . . . anathema. A thing to be most radically avoided.

Writing is the most precious way one person can communicate their essence to another person. I’ve spent a lifetime trying to get better at making myself present in my writing. Why would I want to sacrifice even one iota of that? Not even in an email and certainly not in a short story or novel.

Who are we ceding our authority to, exactly, when we let AI write for us? And why? Why surrender our agency (that amazing ability we have to reach across time and space, with our strange, idiosyncratic phenomenon, and land within the sensibility of another human being) to something that, by its very design, pushes the individual sensibility aside? And in the name of . . . what, exactly? Ease, I guess? Efficiency? The person who chooses to write with AI has also sacrificed, from the start, the opportunity of experiencing difficulty, of struggling to say what he wants to say, of making himself evident in his prose, of trying to find out what he believes. By this, he sacrifices a chance to know himself and his mind better. To me, that’s a shame. And it’s dangerous, because, as we are now finding out, it affects the brain and lessens our capabilities. Thanks, but no thanks, get thee behind me, etc.
