Very sensible but imagine the outcry if it was applied to vehicles.

Now Deliveroo, which has a network of more than 100,000 delivery riders servicing 70,000 restaurants and gro-cery stores in the UK, has begun a crackdown on any it suspects are on the roads illegally.

Using new speed and GPS techno-logy, it plans to monitor riders on its platform and look at how fast they de-liver orders. If the time a delivery takes does not correlate with the bike regis-tered to an account, the user will be contacted, warned and banned from the platform if the behaviour persists.

Paul Bedford, policy and sustainabil-ity director at Deliveroo, told The Times: "The speed technology is help-ing us better detect the use of illegal e-bikes by looking at sustained speeds.

Where we see sustained speeds that are illegal, we will disable a rider's account.

Vegetables are half as nutritious than 60 years ago. Experts now know why
Fewer than a third of wheat varieties used in bread released since the 1960s meet the recommended zinc target, due to poor soil quality

You don't eat meat because you like it, you like it because you were raised with it. It is surprising how easy it is to be disgusted at the things you once loved once you ditched meat. I know it was for me.

It's impressive what we can learn from animals once we respect them as sentient beings instead of using them as tools. Thinking of livestock as objects is both a consequence from and a prerequisite for their exploitation.

A global shift to plant-based diets could free an area of land as big as the US, China, the EU and Australia combined: restored ecosystems could draw down CO2, making our diets carbon negative. Average food emissions per person would be reduced from about 2,000 kg CO2eq/year to -160 kg CO2eq/year.

From nuts to kelp: The 'carbon-negative' foods that help reverse climate change
Eating low-carbon foods helps reduce emissions, but some foods actually suck up carbon from the atmosphere for good, leaving the climate in a better place. Could we eat more of them?

Because the issue of population change is so widely misunderstood, here's a short thread which seeks to lay it out simply. It explains why there is almost nothing anyone can do to change the global population trajectory, both as numbers rise, then as they fall. 🧵1/13

Oil exporting countries have for the most part invested a lot in renewables because they want to use less oil and export more. They used to use oil for everything, including electricity production, because it's very cheap for them but then oil prices increased.

BP did this in 98. It was used to successfully promote carbon trading at the European level but, much like the market it inspired, did nothing to advance decarbonization. This wasn't a failure, rather it was the system working as intended.

Panel two is them walking away and saying "I'll just leave it there"

The head of the person is not a drawn circle but the letter O, because the random software I used to draw it did that for unexplained reasons
