The "zionism is racism" motion that has just passed on the Green Party's conference floor is truly gross, and deeply racist. The party's MPs deserve some credit for opposing it, though they should've done so more stridently and sooner. This is now a millstone around the party's necks. Deservedly.

This was the Greens chance to push back against the extreme antisemitic entryism into their party over the last year. They missed it entirely. What happens next in the party is likely to be very grim, indeed.

Well we have a concrete example across the pond of how ineffectual a written constitution and separation of powers can be. Comparing the two I’d say the UK constitution has proved more resilient in protecting democracy that the US constitution

Sean Owen-Moylan @seanom.bsky.social · 27/09/2026
Arguably that’s nonsense. The UK does have a written constitution not just in one document. The unelected head of state is irrelevant because he/she doesn’t create policy & acts strictly on the guidance of the elected govt. PR is not a prereq for democracy. The HOL is limited as to what it can do

Every year on 19 December, the famous Christmas lights at Mousehole in Cornwall are dimmed between 8 and 9pm, leaving just the Cross and Angels shining down across the village and out to sea.

They will never willingly spend money on governance when they could spend money on feature/function. Instead they spend a tiny amount on messaging that errors are growing pains and/or inevitable and/or signs of some mystically obtained consciousness

Of course not. Any capable control mechanism must have at least as many states or possible responses as the AI it is controlling. If you don’t the AI will always eventually circumvent or overcome. Time to revisit the 1950s discipline of cybernetics.

How could an associate professor in divinity at Cambridge be expected to know that lying is bad? thecritic.co.uk/mone...
Ah yes, James Orr. A lot of us had been hazy about what it is exactly that associate professors in a divinity department do all day. It doesn’t seem to involve a lot of work: Orr is often to be seen at Reform events in London, which take up the whole morning even for those of us with offices down the road. Now we know he was also sipping cocktails while discussing ways in which wealthy foreigners might be able to get round the laws that ban them donating to the party.

The associate professor of divinity was filmed explaining to an undercover reporter that so long as everyone kept their mouths shut, there was no way that the authorities would ever find out. Orr spent four years as a postdoctoral fellow in theology, ethics and public life at Oxford, and it would be fascinating to know at what point he developed this theory of What the Electoral Commission Don’t Know Won’t Hurt Them. Perhaps he was off sick the day they opened the gospel of Luke: “What you have said in the dark will be h

I’d agree it’s irksome but it is a strand of Welsh nationalism. I’d argue when Plaid switched from “independence within the Treaty of Rome” (for it was pre Treaty of Lisbon days) to full and complete separation from the UK that strand went mainstream
