To counter the horror- meet Martha (pronounced the German way. Extra points if you know the inspiration).
Photo shows a small white calico patterned kitten in the foreground. She has large eyes and a pink nose with oversized ears. One paw is blurred and reaching for the camera. She is sitting in a cardboard box on a patterned rug with a blue sofa in the background,

It’s been a heavy month to be a woman. And to be a woman with lived experience of perinatal mental illness, working in perinatal mental health, a survivor of sexual violence. Parenting teenagers into this shitstorm of an adult world. Take care of your mind and each other.

One of my favorite cases of someone being Wrong on the Internet was a very earnest, very confused vegan who was telling people how cruel honey is; and it eventually turned out they thought honey was made by putting bees in a centrifuge and spinning them around until they threw up.

Been wondering how this industry-wide trauma will impact the kind of research and writing academics produce from now (other than obvious limiting it)? I certainly find I’m throwing all caution to the wind and writing what I want to write, knowing I might no longer be doing this in say 5 years time.

Deep distrust of today’s rhetoric around ‘academic’ (!) focussed schools. Working class kids deserve art for arts sake, literature for literatures sake, science for science sake. Because that’s what it really means- a two tier system where middle class kids get a classical education >

The authoritarian community of pure Welsh society run by the very purest men is gone, hence the retrospective title. It’s probably Britain’s most overtly fascist novel. Obviously the much-loved 1939 film cuts all of this and just features every Irish actor in America singing a lot.

Private Eye tells me that How Green Was My Valley is one of Andy Burnham’s favourite books. Oh dear. I write a PhD on 1930s Welsh mining novels, including a whole chapter on Llewellyn’s work. I even read the terrible sequels. It really, really isn’t a story of working-class solidarity etc.
