#DYK? The Vaccines for Children (VFC) program is estimated to have helped prevent almost 500 million illnesses and over 1 million deaths since it began. This program provides vaccines to families that might not be able to afford them. But cuts to HHS could jeopardize this vital program. #ResignRFKJr
A CDC infographic highlighting successes from the Vaccines for Children (VFC) program. The infographic begins with "CCD estimates that vaccination of children born between 1994 and 2021 will:" The first point says "prevent 472 million illnesses (29.8 million hospitalizations" an arrow points right to an illustration of a group of children. Below them, it says "more than the current population of the entire U.S.A" The second point says "help avoid 1,052,000 deaths" an arrow is pointing right to an illustration of a city. Below it, it says "greater than the population of Seattle, WA". The third point says. "save nearly $2.2 trillion in total societal costs (that includes $479 billion in direct costs". An arrow points right to a dollar bill. Below that, it says "more than $5,000 for each American".

Some Senators are floating the idea of a relief fund to help rural hospitals hurt by Medicaid cuts. A relief fund could help hospitals, and preserve access to care for rural residents. But, a hospital relief fund does nothing for people who lose Medicaid and end up uninsured.

Georgia did this with their pathways program. It 1) didn’t work - they have enrolled like .5% of the eligible pop. and 2) it’s insanely expensive - $13000 per enrollee and far more expensive than traditional Medicaid to implement.
