Georgia First is glad to see an important issue being elevated by Georgia’s gubernatorial candidates: Medicaid expansion. Expanding Medicaid will help support struggling rural hospitals, critical cornerstones of our rural communities. More about where the candidates stand ⬇️

A new tool found that GA had one of the highest net losses of hospitals in the country between 2001 and 2023 — 25 GA hospitals closed. Sadly, with recent federal cuts, it’s likely even more hospitals will struggle and possibly fail — we must expand Medicaid. More⬇️

As Medicaid turns 61, we are reminded that Georgia not expanding this program means we are leaving federal dollars on the table, which could help support rural hospitals and transform local economies. We must expand Medicaid now.

GA legislators meet this week for special session to address 2 elections topics. The 1st — addressing an issue about the legality of Georgia's ballots — is critical. The 2nd —considering partisan redistricting — would undercut our election stability. More from our ED in @ajc.com ⬇️

While we're encouraged to see lawmakers taking steps to bring our election code into legal compliance, partisan redistricting efforts risk undermining public trust & perceived election integrity. We hope lawmakers prioritize stability & broad confidence in the electoral process.
