Deeply disturbing police brutality against an anti AI protest in Montreal, Canada a few weeks back. At this point, if you use AI and LLM, save the little white justifications you make to yourself. This is what you align with, like it or not. williamwilsonphotography.substack.com/p/montreal-p...

The friend I was at Forgotten Island with said she thought the aliens were the best part of the trailer, so who knows. But I'd like to see an animated (literally) down-to-earth story of the shaky first steps of a relationship between two rocket techs while Heroic Space Travel happens in the BG

saw the trailer for Illumination's "Not Alone" again when I watched "Forgotten Island" (first time was before "Coyote vs Acme") and had the same feeling I got the first time: I'm much more interested in the rom-com the first 3/4 of the trailer sets up than the alien-com it finishes with

honestly the most depressing thing to me is that we have to talk about this again and again and again and again and again. how to teach men to have human feelings, how to get people to believe us

This is an outstanding refutation of PM Carney's double-speak on proposed Canada Labour Code amendments, from Colleen Bauman and Mark Rowlinson: www.thestar.com/opinion/cont.... Previous misuse of Section 107 would be codified & routinized, even though it's still facing court challenges. #canlab

Mark Carney says he’s protecting Canadian workers. It’s Orwellian doublespeak
Subject to ministerial review, the right to strike is likely to be much weakened by Bill C-39.

Just speaking for film & TV there isn't really a job loss due to AI. It's been mostly due to successive punches of pandemic, streaming collapse, union strikes, studio consolidation and interest rates. This trend was in place way before Midjourney was pumping out pictures with 14 fingers.

BG layouts are done (no colour yet) and I'm working my way through rough animation. Yesterday I sent notes to my friend who's doing the score. I haven't made anything from start-to-finish in a very very long time, and it feels good. Forgot I had some of these muscles. "Make stuff! It feels good!"

Well, I for one am an economist who supports rent controls! Here’s why 🧵: Markets only work well if: -buyers & sellers have roughly equal power -producers respond to price signals & expand supply in response to scarcity -buyers can walk away if prices get too high

being in animation, its not from AI. the streaming bubble bursting cuz everyone hopped on the grain cuz it undermined unions, less regulations and more mergers are what lead to the loss. AI is just what people think but it started way before that

Neural networks did not work UNTIL they got all that data. Raw data is useless without immense human labour to clean and store it in massive data centres. GPUs which are also required need rare earth minerals. On and on. AI only works because we're dedicating all of a massive industry to it.

Of course! The concerns have merit anyway, it's a pretty bad situation. And honestly if I were in a less safe riding I would have to do a bit more thinking about it. I'm also aware that I have a bit of an axe to grind with the NDP but also that they're still not the worst option

The parties out of power always want voting reform. But once they're in power, it always feels a little less attractive...

I wouldn't really say I'm on the greens team exactly 😉 but I'm definitely more aligned with their current incarnation. And I agree. (But flubbing voting reform is also on this BCNDP government too haha! Doing the referendum with a complicated mail-in ballot? Basically leading voters to status quo)

Hard to know what the greens would or wouldn't have done if they'd actually had power, but even at 3 MLAs at the time, they were acting like a pretty effective opposition party
