It's genuinely heartening to me how many of my students have developed extremely well-considered opinions about Anne Conway's and the Calvinists differing conceptions of God's freedom. If my students are annoying their roommates with this nonsense, I have done my job!

This position entails that it should be a higher priority to change the pictures on Canadian coins than to stop the government of Quebec's efforts to drive Muslims out of public life. I find this kind of performative republicanism deeply unserious. And I am not a monarchist!

My contribution to this discourse: Americans have bad food. The evidence is a head-to-head comparison between the US "Kraft Mac & Cheese" (bland, insipid) and the Canadian "Kraft Dinner" (delightful, full of zest for both life and flavour).
