Today, sixty days after being laid off by JPL, my severance pay and insurance coverage expire. At JPL, I did engineering ops for the Curiosity Rover 🚀. Before that, I studied entrepreneurship and management at Stanford. Please reskeet this so I can make new connections and find new opportunities 🤠

When doing math, the standards for the 8 mathematical practices are what the students should be DOING. Which MP are they working on today? Note: MP6 is NOT "Show your work" #ITeachMath #EduSky
The image shows a list of the eight Standards for Mathematical Practice (SMPs). These standards are:
1. Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them.
2. Reason abstractly and quantitatively.
3. Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others.
4. Model with mathematics.
5. Use appropriate tools strategically.
6. Attend to precision.
7. Look for and make use of structure.
8. Look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning.

Though I’m neither a writer, nor illustrator, I found this post was quite interesting to read, as someone who buys books for libraries and is curious about how publishing/agent/etc systems work (and I’m sure there are lots of opinions about the content here, but I’m not the one to debate with—IDK)

How are the graphs different? How are they similar? How are the situations different? How are they similar? Which graph matches with which situation, and how do you know? #connectingreps #mathsky #edusky
The visual shows two graphs. Graph A has time on the independent axis and distance from start on the dependent axis. It shows a graph with a constant slope up, followed by a horizontal line, followed by a constant slope down. Graph B shows a similar graph except the constant slope up is steeper than in graph A. It is also followed by a horizontal line and a constant slope down, exactly the same dimensions as A.

There are also 3 situations.

Situation 1: Chiemeka is in gym class. She walked straight for 100 meters on the track and stopped to rest and then walked back to the start.

Situation 2: Chiemeka is in gym class. She ran straight for 100 meters on the track and stopped to rest and then walked back to the start because she was tired.

Situation 3: Chiemeka is in gym class. She ran straight for 100 meters on the track, then she walked slowly for another 100 meters further, and then ran the last 100 meters.
