Do you have a school LFL? In the wayback days, before Twitter was turned into an almost exclusively dumpster fire place, I tried to encourage school libraries to also have LFLs … great community-building, fun #makerspace project with kids…
Photo: Old tweet re: my school LFL, with a picture of my planning/blueprint notes, and a photo of the finished structure (as described previously in this thread).

Tweet said:
“Ever think about building a #littlefreelibrary as an #ADST #STEM #communityspirit #MakerSpace project at your school?
#bctla #TLchat “Photo of the tweet image: shows a collage of various planning pages (sticky notes, actually, with my doodles, materials lists, blueprints, costs lists, other planning notes…sorry, quite hard to turn that content into meaningful ALT…resolution poor, collage overlap, so even image text capture not great.

FIXED! My teaching station stool has had a ripped fabric cover that’s been getting worse for at least two years…not anymore. Finally used my #makerspace tools and a dollar store plastic tablecloth to quickly reupholster it. Oooh, ahhh! #skybrarian skills!
This picture shows my tall white painted wooden stool wall from above with the top removed. The top is flipped upside down and sitting on top of an upside down tablecloth on library tables with a big metre stick and a red marker and outlines drawn for where I need to cut the tablecloth to be able to wrap around the seat top which has a big foam cushion part and a wooden base. A close-up photo of the seat cushion and tablecloth as previously described. The snazzy tablecloth with wild blue teal and yellow we green paisley designs only cost $4.50. Ta-da!! This shot shows my tall wooden four legged stool with its brand new bright blue, yellow-green, and teal Paisley wrapped cushion sitting in front of my drafting table – teaching station rebuild complete!

Just had a quick peek at my email and saw this good news…once in a while a proposed library cut gets the cut instead…prison library services in Canada are spared…glad to have written to help stop the cut…wasn’t expecting the campaign to work.
From an email update:
“Great News:
Prison Librarians Saved!
Dear BCFI friends, supporters, and volunteers,
Today the Commissioner of Correctional Service Canada (CSC) announced an official rejection of the proposed budget cut that would eliminate federal librarian positions. This means, thanks to your support and advocacy, librarians in federal penitentiaries across Canada can continue their invaluable work.
We are grateful to Commissioner Talal Dakalbab for his swift review and sound rejection of such a harmful cut. We are also encouraged and inspired by his thoughtful message, in which he confirms that "access to reading materials, information, and learning supports plays an important role in offender rehabilitation, including literacy development, education, and personal growth. This will continue."
We are thrilled by this news and want to extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who raised their voice and took action in support of prison librarians. At a time when access to books, literacy, and learning within our institutions is more important than ever, your advocacy sent a powerful message: prison libraries matter, and the work done by prison librarians is not only necessary, but life-changing.
We were fortunate to be supported by a remarkable community of writers who set aside their own work to write compelling and heartfelt articles about this misguided decision. Their voices helped galvanize public attention, sparked important conversations, and inspired so many Canadians to take interest and action.
While there is still work ahead, the response to this campaign has demonstrated the strength of a community united around a simple belief: that access to books, knowledge, and professional library services should remain an integral part of Canada's correctional system.
Thank you … …ensuring every incarcerated individual has access to the literature they need to imagine a different future… [some truncations]

I’m famous!!! At least, kinda sorta…in the school newspaper created by a Gr 5 team.
Screenshot of the digital newspaper page. Text says…

Staff of the month
Congratulations to Mr. Hunt for being staff of the month! We want to thank Mr. Hunt for organizing the book fair for our school. All the money he gets goes to the free book cart. Mr.
Hunt is also a "Zine" expert! Zines are mini magazines that people can publish. They can be about personal interests, personal expression, and you can also share your learning in them! Mr. Hunt taught Mrs. Elliott's class on how to make Zines as part of their past discriminatory policies in Canadian history unit. See below for an example of a student-made Zine. Mr. Hunt makes his own Zines too. You can find them at The Book Man in Chilliwack!
Fun fact, Mr. Hunt used to be a Grade 4/5 Teacher! Even though he loved teaching Grade 4/5 he says that being a Teacher-Librarian is the best gig ever! He does team teaching with different grades and different subjects and gets to know kids as they grow up. Mr. Hunt also loves the fun of storytime and selecting new books for the library. Mr. Hunt loves spreading the joy of reading and learning! Another fun fact, Mr. Hunt has been teaching at Sardis Elementary for 18 years! One of Mr. Hunt's favourite books is The Tale of Despereaux by Kate DiCamillo and he likes reading science-fiction books. Ms. Shelley has been working with Mr. Hunt for a whopping 18 years. Ms. Shelley has been volunteering in our library for 28 years! Thank you Ms. Shelley for all that you do.

#FaveBookmarkToday This duo by Lemon Dawn studio, local artist, via Snail Mail Club monthly subscription plan—get a l’il package o’ fun along w/ her sticker design of the month. It’s a bit of extra joy to receive such fun mail. Look her up? Subscribe? Anyway, loving my new bonus beetle bookmarks.
A picture showing the mentioned beetle bookmarks – I think it might be what is called a beetle in a stylized illustration style, done in pastel blues, and pinks on a light green background, and it was originally a single image of a beetle that is now split perfectly down the center, so that forms to bookmarks with rounded edges.

In the background behind, it is the snail mail club envelope, purple with a yellow lemon dawn address sticker, and sticking out from behind that are small portions of barely visible extras like a mini print monthly newsletter, a colouring sheet and a drawing prompt sheet (I have them so that if someone actually orders at a bit more of a surprise, then if they’ve seen everything fully)The second photo in which one of the beetle book marks as visible as it was before, while the other one is flipped over to the backside, which has a rainbow and cloud with the lemon Dan logo plus the monthly snail mail club logo, which is a rainbow in the background behind a snail that has a lemon shaped and lemon coloured shell area.

Had to fix/wreck the QR codes in the Dan Santat book Are we there yet? Meant sitting under my desk for ages awaiting this fix. Putting it on display at one point, remembered QR codes, decided to check them as I couldn’t remember what content came up—well, a junk site hijacked the codes 👀also ALT
A picture showing one page of the book that has a robot in two different panels with a word bubble. That is a QR code that used to be scannable to go and see what the robot was saying, but is now going to some click bait junk site – except that I fixed the QR codes by adding extra squares into them so they don’t scan at all anymore. Kids can just imagine that that’s a representation of a weird robot language in the future.A picture of the cover of the book with the title are we there yet in a diagonal long rectangle word bubble, coming from a boy in the backseat of an orange car with two parents in the front. Above the word, bubble title bar is a picture of a T-Rex filling up the top half of the book and on the T-Rex is the same family car with the family members freaking out. Whilst surrounded by a whole bunch of historical characters.

My new library display project: Mini-Museum Exhibit! For several yrs I had a monthly subscription w/ (highly rec) Box of Matter (cool science-y stuff); got it for the library for one year—had a little unboxing sci club… Been meaning to do a rotating display for ages—TA-DA! #TLsky #skybrarians
A lot going on in this photo…
First of all, there’s a paper, Mr. Hunt on the wall: A self portrait drawing, which is below a squared-off word bubble picture frame thingy I made…and taped into the word bubble is a sign saying, “Check out the mini-museum exhibit!”
Next to that is a 3x3’ white board…I screw-mounted a low-profile wooden display case divided into six boxes into the centre…in it are various artifacts (fossilized shark tooth, anthracite in a jar, selenite, urchin spines…)
Surrounding the case are two “Don’t Touch” signs and photocopied sheets of the specimen descriptor cards.
At the top of the whiteboard, in blue marker, it says, Identify the Artifacts: Read the description cards and see if you can match them to the objects…Look With Your Eyes [not your hands].A close-up pic of the display case described in previous ALT.

Doing some poetry writing w/ several classes lately to celebrate natnl poetry month. One class doing some extended work on “poem about myself” is producing some cool stuff using metaphor/simile descriptors, alternative line beginnings/opposites, line break experimentation, thoughtful titles… 1/2
Some samples of simile/metaphor writing prompts to create lines that reflect student personalities.
Qs like What texture are you, What kind of music are you, What piece of furniture are you…? And because those tend to get “I am” repetition lines, one sheet has alternative line suggestions, like I used to be, I’ll never be, You want me to be…etc.A shot of a large work table strewn with writing materials, the previously ALT-discussed ideas sheets kids busily writing away (just arms and hands visible; I never put photos of kids’ faces online).
