kudos to macklemore here for —right off the bat— the perspective and acknowledgment of who the real victims are
I'm not sure how to start this. So I'm going to speak from the heart and share the truth. Ed Sheeran and his team have made the decision to remove me from The Loop tour.

But before I get into it, I want to say something that should be obvious. In this moment I think it matters. I am not a victim. Ed Sheeran is not a victim. Pink is not a victim. We have careers, money, opportunities, safety and audiences around the world. Whatever consequences any of us face for what we say, we get to go home to our families.

The victims are the Palestinian people. The men, women and children who have been killed, starved, displaced and forced to live through unimaginable violence. More than 20,000 children have been killed in Gaza alone. People are being killed today, and people will be killed tomorrow. I want to make sure that as I tell this story, we don't lose sight of that.

No Soft Cops, No Saviours: Abolitionist Notes Against Social Work in Libraries by @gossippractice.bsky.social
In this article, I look at the idea of hiring social workers into public libraries through the lens of abolitionist librarianship. Often presented as an obvious answer to make libraries more inclusive, there is little evidence within the published literature that this model is more effective than others. I argue that rather than expanding care and support for patrons, this model replicates dynamics of soft carcerality and saviourism within our organizations. Using principles of police abolition as my theoretical grounding, I offer alternative models and fields that we can instead draw on as we work toward more inclusive and liberatory public libraries.

Schools are not a business and a student is not a customer and this is the framing that encapsulates everything wrong with higher education. The “solution” of running universities like businesses rather than a public good was always the problem.

I am just continually so impressed with this book. The author has managed to write a highly academic text and also lyrical and deeply emotional and every passage hits so hard and so clear then darts away into the poetic. It's the sort of thing that even at my best I won't achieve, but I want to try

I dunno i guess i just think it's bad that, instead of rebuilding cultures of trust & shared consensus knowledgemaking which are fundamental to our society, we're just increasingly handing over decision- & sense-making authority to tools which a) we can't trust & b) further degrade trust foundations

the way people like to post "argh food recall again" screenshots without linking to the actual recall, and then you go find the actual recall and it's like - "this is still safe under these specific circumstances but abundance of caution" or "only sold at specific food store in another time zone"

💯 Knowledge isn't an objective thing out there in the world, the brain is an organ for taking information it perceives as important enough to pay attention to and tries to make sense of it, to give it *meaning*. In being meaning makers, humans are by definition knowledge builders!

Be a Laurie. I think Laurie is probably sleeping pretty dang well at night
As the flight neared final boarding, another ICE officer accused Laurie of interfering with the operation and pressed her to help locate the passenger. Laurie declined to say whether the woman was on the flight's passenger list and told the officer he would need to contact the airline's corporate security department for information. "You're going to need a subpoena," she said. No arrests were made at the gate that day.

The next day, the passenger called her.
She had made it home. And she was with her child.
