I would like this book with this cover.

The Birthgrave by Tanith Lee; “a rich, bloody, swords-and-sorcery epic with a truly memorable heroine - as tights as Conan the Barbarianbht more convincing.” — Publishers Weekly

a topless woman waking a red cape rides a horse-drawn chariot and brandishes a bow

In this full flowering of our Pattinsonnaissance, a passionate plea for people to watch his unfairly less-discussed turn in a Cronenberg film: MAPS TO THE STARS (2014). It rules.

If we're doing genre/literary discourse, my hot take is genres are loose traditions that are best understand historically and culturally and attempts to define them logically ("if it has X and Y, then it is by definition Z") always fall short. countercraft.substack.com/p/genres-are...

It's easier to think that people are cutting off their family because of social contagion or viral therapy trends than it is to accept that families are very often places of pain and domination where escape is the only alternative to lifelong misery or death.

my opinion on chili pepper rating system is that it’s asinine and accidentally like the MPAA! when I read reviews that have chili pepper ratings, I either ignore this part of the review or stop reading it bc this system of rating is meaningless.

Banks, the biggest arbiter of what can be distributed online, are steadily restricting the types of speech — art, entertainment, resources — permitted. A payment provider dropped FlowFo for allowing sex-related content, pushing them out of business. Financial discrimination is censorship.

gotta light?

Indeed, at one TCA press tour, I remember an older journalist telling me, in a frustrated rant, "I don't know why we keep nominating that show [for the TCA Heritage Award]. It's all just random bullshit. Those guys have never known what they were doing."

Of course, the show he was talking about was Twin Peaks, a show that attained a massive amount of cultural cachet most series would only dream of, before (in this man's opinion) pissing it away.

And it's my favorite TV show of all time.

this was the reason I read it bc I saw you & Alix E. Harrow talking about it!! I see a connection between Submit and Dorothea…but I think Submit and Henry really did love each other and understand one another unlike Dorothea and Casaubon…although i can’t recall precisely what yall said at the time

Only Barker would write a YA fantasy series introducing an evil wizard skeleton man perpetually drowning in a vat of literal nightmares named Christopher Carrion to make kids go "yo, this guy's fucked up" just to make the hard pivot to say "How do you think he got that way? Let's meet his grandma."
